The excessive slow motion underscores how outdated this character is... Still, it is a nice movie. How could it not be, with so many good actors attached? [Full Review in Spanish]

...the result is a weird, atonal, campy mess.

After taking their not-so-sweet time getting to the action, director Ruben Fletcher and his screenwriters rush from scene to scene in implausible fashion.

Misconceived, miscast and with enough violence and general nastiness to earn it a 15 certificate, it's a remarkably unpleasant way to spend the best part of two hours in a cinema.
October 17, 2018
deeply conflicted, forever torn between being a dark, violent sci-fi horrorshow and a looser, lighter piece of antiheroic pulp comedy
October 16, 2018
Venom is bad, often boring, and feels like sort of bizarre mix between DC's dark grittiness and Marvel's light, comedy-adjacent style. It's also kind of neither of these things.

It's a film that simply works with a simple plot and entertains with action scenes and effects. [Full review in Spanish]

An entirely squandered opportunity.

It may feel a bit like super hero movies before there were epic sagas, such as the Iron Man and Captain America franchises, but Venom is still a fun time at the movies.

A waste of a perfectly good Tom Hardy.
October 13, 2018
The story is aided by having top notch acting talent like Hardy and Williams. There is also plenty of action and humor. The formulaic plot has its problems, but overall, this is an entertaining movie.

Venom serves up a menu of spicy hard PG-13 action but also includes a well balanced sampling of scrumptiously surprising buddy humor between an unemployed reporter and a flesh eating symbiote. We're ready for the second course.

I don't know if you need to rush into theaters to see Venom, but when you can rent it, please do...it's not an amazing film but I can say I had a good time watching it.

The movie becomes about Eddie and Venom coming to an arrangement. There is a lot of humour, including a sly riff on the Batman movies from Marvel rival DC Comics.
October 13, 2018
Based on a minor, morally fluid Marvel Comics character, Venom isn't a good movie, exactly, being a sloppily scripted, unevenly executed tonal mess.

It never reaches the level of the best the MCU has to offer, but it isn't the absolute disaster many of us were dreading either. [Full review in Spanish]
October 12, 2018
Ultimately we're left with this mess of a PG-13 bloodless, watered-down impression of a superhero movie. The most grotesque thing in the entire movie has gotta be watching Tom Hardy shovel tater tots into his mouth like a goddamned Neanderthal.

...Venom knows this, and because of that, it doesn't bother to make much sense. Its entire deal is just having fun with the dynamic between Eddie Brock-Tom Hardy giving a downright incredible performance as a man possessed.
October 11, 2018
There's apparently so little scope for exploration of this bizarre and fascinating symbiotic relationship that Fleischer decides instead to spend the first hour of the film worrying about Brock's career issues...

The best supervillains tell us something about ourselves and our heroes. Venom crawls into its hero's head and realizes it has nothing to say.
