Originally a 26-episode television series that was broadcast during 1952 and 1953, this documentary consists largely of newsreels filmed during the naval campaigns of World War II. Along with the battle footage, scenes of everyday life on aircraft carriers and battleships alternate with poignant tableaux, such as an injured seaman being administered last rites by the onboard chaplain. Somber narration by Alexander Scourby and a score by Broadway composer Robert Russell Bennett complete the film.
