Begin the Beguine is one of the most forgettable foreign Oscar winners which just screams forgettable with its very slight story and slow pace. It has its endearing moments and it's well shot and scored, but it needed more drama in it as the story is immensely boring and uneventful leading to a total waste of time.
Antonio Ferrandis and its solid, peaceful presence, leaves us to an atmosphere of tranquility -which the music surrounds all the time- which makes this little movie delicious to watch.
Maravillosa.
One of my two favorite movies by Garci. The other one being, "Asignatura pendiente." Acting is superb; the soundtrack and the story unforgettable.
Gijon in the 80s, with a touch of Yankee-mania typical of that era and a heart warming story.
