5/10: Absolutely artsy war epic. Those with the appetite for an exceptional piece of filmmaking will be vastly entertained, but not for most who are looking for conventional entertainment. A simple storyline that can be told in 30mins, but dragged to more than 120mins in length. Absolutely amazing casts - Liu Ye (China), Chang Chen (Taiwan), Daniel Wu (Hong Kong) and the actress Queen, top notch performances.

While most Hongmen Feast movies are action movies, The Last Supper digresses by bringing us a court intrigue drama. The movie introduces a fictional character as well - General Xin - to further dramatize the event. Director Chuan Lu's non-linear storytelling is quite effective and presents a deep, multi-layered story that is both intelligent and entertaining. So far the best interpretation of the famous Chinese event on film.

This is the best China film I've seen in ages. Pulls no punches when it comes to criticism of absolute power (it's amazing it hasn't been censored in China). And with a refreshing, intensely psychological approach, supported by gorgeous visuals, that evokes Shakespearean tragedies.

Not as powerful as thought to be. Narrative looks confusing sometimes. So-so in acting, directing, editing.
