The crux of the film concerns Pleasence's feverish efforts to save Carol's good name after she is raped and impregnated by her brother's loutish soldier friend. Have a box of tissues. I would never have imagined Carol Kane playing the role she played in this. Unbelievably good. Terrific cast. As I related a real tear jerker.
