Audience Reviews for Welcome to Spring Break (Nightmare Beach)

From Italian rip-off master Umberto Lenzi (Make Them Die Slowly, Black Demons, Nightmare City, etc.) comes Welcome to Spring Break, a hilarious entry in the 80s slasher genre that opens with the execution of a violent biker-gang leader and proceeds through a blood-drenched Spring break in a small Florida town. Featuring such horror/b-movie icons as Michael Parks and John Saxon, Welcome to Spring Break is a hilarious, absolutely ridiculous, and thoroughly entertaining piece of late-80s slasher fare that will undoubtedly entertain fans of the period and genre.

Lenzi really fumbles everything he touches in this one. I mean he manages to make Florida Spring Break look stupid, even with toplessness. He manages to make the biker gang look like a knitting bee, especially with the decoupage door to their hideout/clubhouse. He manages to under use John Saxon. He manages to make the killer painfully obvious. The chase scene with the huge walkie talkies is hilarious. As is the idea of the grandpa bike rigged with an electric chair in the seat. I wish there were moments when the this is so bad its funny, but really, everything flops. The yellow tank top thief, the prankster with the shark fin gags, the attack dog that gets maced. Not to mention some of the worst dialogue going. And none of it memorable. Stick to his cannibal opuses, I guess. Though it was fun to see that gas was only .89 cents in 1987.

Funny, gory, tons of boobs and an entertaining slasher film about a Spring Break party town with corrupt cops, a biker gang and a killer biker on the loose. There are a lot of spring break antics during the first half kind of like Pledge Night. Most of the deaths are electrocutions (the killer biker as a shock chair on the back of his bike). Great party movie.
