Panek doesn't sugarcoat anything in his beautifully-shot, grim tale, but ultimately, it's his belief in human kindness that prevails.

When Panek reveals the source of the terror, Werewolf could easily turn to pulpy horror. It does not.

It's a tale of children fighting for their lives with elements of Lord of the Flies, but it's also a gritty survival horror with some eye-catching moments.

Deftly acted by the young cast and stunningly shot, Panek's sophomore feature is an enthralling reflection on human nature, but with nail-biting jeopardy never too far away.

An allegorical tale about the effects of cruelty on the human mind.

Anchoring this metaphor are the literal (and brilliantly wrangled) dogs, similarly hungry, similarly locked into destructive behavioural patterns, and similarly in need of transformative taming if they are ever to be reintegrated into normal life

A thematically rich combination of coming-of-age drama, wartime thriller and horror movie.
