Alain E @AlainE Feb 6 The movie is produced in part by a company with the eponym FAKE ACTION TRUTH. This prepares the viewer for the multiple shooting scenes and car pursuits. Just kidding! The people who miss such elements assigned half a star. This Chino Scandinavian production (another reason we need to occupy Greenland) is a dense and dark (metaphorically and literally) drama about a serial killer, an infertile female psychologist and an abstaining alcoholic cop. All these elements are treated with dexterity and the dial remains at 6 or 7 (while on Pitt for example would be at 12). Superb cinematography that manages among other things perfect framing of dull contemporary buildings. We learn that there is another good Skarsgard actor in addition to Stellan (his father in real life) who plays the cop. Riseborough is also very good as the therapist. Very rewarding experience if you enjoy this type of movies. See more Bruce M @BruceMc Jan 22 A remarkably quiet and thoughtful film, bleak, filled with silences and pauses and almost no music. Excellent direction, cinematography and, especially, acting: all three leads are superlative. Lots of subtext, a great deal of information is left unsaid and requires the viewer to connect the dots. The two supporting characters’ actions start out subtly, but become more and more far afield. You start to question everyone’s motivations. The roles of the "killer" and psychiatrist are so well acted and restrained. The roles could easily been taken way over the top. I’m so glad they weren’t. Slow, bleak, drab and excruciatingly BORING. The characters barely speak in more than hushed, distorted tones with zero substance and they seem to have been paid not to emote at any cost. This was a miserable experience and a cinematic failure. I didn’t know a serial killer’s story could be so painfully dull and utterly forgettable. The movie was bleak, boring and slow on steroids. So slow in fact I dozed off briefly while watching it. Or perhaps I slipped into a coma…at this point I’m not really sure. See more Read all reviews
