Critic Reviews for When Stand Up Stood Out
Fran Solomita can hold his breath and stamp his feet, but that isn't going to make 1970s-to-80s Boston much more than a footnote in the history of stand-up comedy
After watching "When Stand Up Stood Out", you will not need Comedy Central as much as you think you do.
Audience Reviews for When Stand Up Stood Out
OUTSTANDING! A MUST SEE for fans of comedy and an heck of a ride for anyone who's a fan of Eighties Excess. The Boston Comedy Scene was just that, a scene. This documentary mixes old footage-- performance and backstage-- with recent interviews to take you right in the middle of what was going down. There are really funny comedians here, with familiar names like Dennis Leary and Steven Wright, but also some hilarious guys who were fixtures in New England, but never made it nationwide. And when you see all that they were doing (injesting), a lot of it makes sense. That sort of wild time could never repeat itself, but for a moment you can feel like you're living when the madmen ruled the asylum. Laugh, cry, be amazed they're still alive, and enjoy the ride.
