12/18/2010 Definitely a worth see. See more 08/15/2010 A simple and beautifully shot short showing the birth of Stan Brakhage's first daughter in his own bedroom. With no sound, the short can invite any number of interpretations, but its conception is somewhat simple: Jane Brakhage despised hospitals and knew she would be better off giving birth someplace where she was comfortable, so she and her husband conceived the idea of filming the moment. When Stan expressed the opinion that his filming the event would remove him from the equation in a moment his wife would need him the most, she replied that the act of filming it would mark his involvement in a much more personal way. As an adult, his daughter can look back at this moment and attest to this sentiment. See more 01/25/2010 Images become the language of such magnificent wonder of nature, only like God could have planned it since the beginning of mankind. Brakhage achieves a momumental, breathtaking mastery heavy in miraculous artistry, exceptional photography and invigorating, Eisensteinian editing. The fine line between reality and fantasy has been broken, blossoming beautiful and shining stars of inspirations of life. 100/100 See more 10/24/2009 Avoid eating when you watch this. Seriously. See more 09/27/2009 Horrifying. It will be forever imprinted in my brain. Well done film, though. See more 06/04/2009 another graphic brakhage film, but not in the way of the act of seeing with ones own eyes. this captures, in great detail, a home birth. it is grotesque and yet there is beauty in the film and not just because its the fact that its a the beginning of a human life. its shot with great tenderness and raw honesty.
