A future bride and the transvestite dressmaker embark on an eventful journey into the heart of Morocco that transforms both of them in ways neither could have ever imagined. Zina is a young Italian with Moroccan roots. She has recently become engaged to a wealthy Arab from Turin, and as her wedding date draws near she becomes determined to purchase the most beautiful wedding dress that money can buy. In order to accomplish that lofty goal, Zina contacts Shakira - a Moroccan transvestite who also happens to be the best dressmaker in town. Later, as Shakira is taking Zina's measurements, the terrified bride-to-be bursts into tears and sobbingly admits that she is no longer a virgin. The skilled dressmaker sympathizes with her dejected client, and promises to take her to Casablanca in order to receive the surgery that will restore her virginity. In order to remain inconspicuous, the two set out for their destination claiming that they are traveling to markets in Fes and Marrakesch in order to purchase the finest dress materials that money can buy. But they only have one week to do so, because after seven days have passed, the traditional tattoo that she recently received will fade from her skin. Now, as these unlikely traveling companions venture through Spain and into the Moroccan interior, each day brings a new and unexpected challenge. Meanwhile, the relationship between Zina and Shakira begins to reflect the change that is sweeping through Morocco, and as they make their way to Casablanca the dressmaker becomes less inclined to assemble the gown that will cement the relationship between her worrisome traveling companion and the other man in her life.
