I do wonder who is giving these good reviews...though I will admit, it could have been worse.

I wanted to like it...but at some point, it is what it is, come on.

Given the standing of 2017's Wonder Woman as one of the best superhero movies ever made (Top 15, for sure), there's no getting around the fact that the highly anticipated Wonder Woman 1984 registers as a massive disappointment.
January 16, 2021
The big-budget Wonder Woman sequel is an ugly, tedious, bloated, badly CGI-ed mess and a wretchedly directed film.

Lord is a pale imitation of someone like Lex Luthor. One could almost call him Trumpian, except Lord has the rudiments of a conscience and actually cares about his child.
January 12, 2021
It's not only disappointing-it's bad storytelling.

Warner Bros spent $200 million to waste 2.5 hours of everyone's life as a small measure of revenge. "You think we're dumb? We'll show you dumb!" was the only studio note on the entire script, which doesn't exist, because this is all fake. It has to be.

Romantic, idealistic and ebullient, Patty Jenkins' Wonder Woman is one of the most beautiful superhero films ever made. It should have been a springboard for a brilliant series, but that hope dims in Wonder Woman 1984.

On and on this wonky, barely coherent tale goes, weakened further still by the wonky, barely expressive acting skills of Gadot.
January 7, 2021
On the positive side there is Gal Gadot. On the negative side there is the script, the setting, Kristen Wiig, Pedro Pascal, etcetera, etcetera, etcetera.

No one was happier than me to see Chris Pine back from the dead as Steve Trevor, but a world-weary Wonder Woman is, to use an '80s term, kind of a bummer. Especially for two and a half hours.

This has a few saving graces with Chris Pine and Kristen Wiig. I still love what this character represents but want them to have top quality and writing for the next one.
January 6, 2021
I really did enjoy Wiig's performance and the 80's flare that they added to it. The main villain is stupid.
January 6, 2021
Wonder Woman 1984 is an appalling misfire.
January 6, 2021
It just doesn't quite add up to the end of 2020 knockout we might have wished for. But should we be surprised? After all... "monkey's paw".
January 5, 2021
The end result is a movie that tries to do too much, entertaining in fits and starts but ultimately just one last letdown to end the year.

Adopts the pop style of its historical moment (but witout pop songs from the era) like Titanic could be understood as a melodrama from 1912; the slapdash choice and depiction of its villains is timeless.

It's the anti-"Incredibles."
January 3, 2021
WW84 takes no advantage from its 80s set up or the double villain scheme, delivering a mindless story that steers too far from the tone set in the previous installment in the worst way possible.
January 3, 2021
Meaningful representation consists of more than simply casting women and people of color.
