Movie Info

Jill Murphy's children's story The Worst Witch is given satisfactory treatment in this amiable film fantasy. The scene is a school for witches, where the head sorceresses offer a liberal black-arts curriculum. Problems occur when one of the students turns out to be too good for her own good. And, as everybody knows, the best people make the worst witches. Veterans Diana Rigg and Charlotte Rae generously share screen time with such engaging comparative newcomers as Fairuza Balk. The 70-minute Worst Witch is ideal TV fare for the Halloween season.

Audience Reviews for The Worst Witch

I really wanted to like this movie, but it was just so simplistic that I started to wonder why they had the characters be witches. I suppose it was just because it was a TV movie and they wanted a movie for kids to watch on Halloween that had a good lesson in the end. I think kids would enjoy this, but not older people.

Absolutely cheesetastic to the max but it is entertaining. Lodged in my brain as a faint memory I checked this out again and while it is dated, I like the TV look to it. There's Charlotte Rae doing her schtick and there's Fairuza Balk doing her precious sad little girl thing as the title wost witch. Cheese effects and tone but what do you expect from an 80's TV production of a children's book? Yes Tim Curry is the best thing in this

I need to see this film again. I remember it being Harry Potter before Harry Potter, Tim Curry showing up to do a musical number as the most awesome warlock in the world, and some other bits and pieces. I remember liking it though.
