Movie Info

This two-part British miniseries was based on a classic gothic novel by Sheridan J. LeFanu. Having inadvertently caused the death of one of his tenants, wicked Squire Fairfield (Derek Jacobi) adopted the dead man's daughter Alice (Naomi Watts). No sooner had Alice grown to womanhood that the satyr-like squire attempted to "have his way" with her. Escaping the Squire's clutches, Alice eloped with Fairfield's virtuous son Charles (Iain Glen) -- but she was not quite out of the wood yet, thanks to a series of disturbing nightmares, a wraithlike mystery woman, and the machinations of Charles' diabolical brother Harry (Jack Davenport). The Wyvern Mystery originally aired on March 5 and 12, 2000. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

Audience Reviews for The Wyvern Mystery

One of those movies you didn't hear much about, but you have to see. Naomi Watts is beautiful in this movie. From the BBC (United Kingdom) its worth the buy.

The Wyvern Mystery has everything going for it, but it fails to answer most of the mystery it weaves, leaving you a little confused when it's all over. Full review at:

[IMG][/IMG] This was a very strange story. I didn't really like it but Naomi Watts did an amazing job in the acting department. There were also some very beautiful shots during the film. Alice Maybell (Naomi Watts) is taken in by Squire Fairfield to live at Wyvern Manor when her father dies. As she grows into a beautiful young woman the Squire makes an unwanted offer of marriage. Alice runs off with his older son who she has secretly been in love with. They flee to a family estate to escape the Squire wrath but hidden inside the walls of the house is something much darker. And it is out for blood. Alice must try to solve the mystery off the secret inhabitant before she loose all hope of saving those she loves, her husband and her son, the heir of Wyvern Manor. The story was very dark and extremely creepy. I was very scared as Alice explored the forsaken rooms and also of what she found. It was a very frustrating movie because poor Alice kept having all these bad things happen to her and even the ending was very dark. The story was also very similiar to Jane Eyre. Naomi Watts gave a wonderful performance but I can't help but compare her to Nicole Kidman. They look so much alike and even sound very similiar. Jack Davenport suprised me in this film. In Coupling he is just sooo bad but it must just be comidic roles because he played Harry Fairfield, Alice's brother-in-law, quite well.
