Movie Info

A workaholic with a fear of commitment struggles to reconcile his dysfunctional past during a trip back home to visit his ailing father in this comedy starring Jimmy Fallon. Christopher Rocket (Fallon) is a nice enough guy, but thanks to his troubled family history, he isn't much for making commitments. Just as his smoldering girlfriend Anne (Lucy Liu) begins hinting that she's ready for him to pop the big question, Christopher's self-absorbed father (Tom Arnold) suffers a major stroke. But the stroke may actually be a blessing in disguise, because once Christopher returns to Florida and begins building bridges with his free-spirited mother Jane (Sharon Stone), his priorities finally start coming into focus.

An anemic grab-bag of Sundance cliches.

You won't want to get to know these obnoxious characters.

Director Patrick Sisam merely cherry picks his favorite moments of dysfunction and eccentricity, failing to provide any sort of reasonable argument for Christopher's zombified mental state.

Audience Reviews for The Year of Getting to Know Us

I thought this was a very convincing story. Patrick Sisam did a wonderful job a with bringing out the child's perspective to the family life. The child's different memories to what happens in the family and what that perspective does to the adult child's choices in life. I'm not saying it's a perfect film but it is worth a watch. www.what-to-watch.com

I really enjoyed this one. A man discovers how truly screwed up his is through remembering his past. The flashback scenes worked very well and you start to really see the character.
