It might have helped if director Roberto Sneider had let his female lead be something more than the pretty thing doing the figurative killing mentioned in the title.
Both characters are wildly flawed, and you can feel your sympathies shift during their knock-down, drag-out fights.
[An] engaging film, exploring the link between honesty and intimacy.
Eventually it feels like the movie is spinning its wheels.
A romantic drama that goes heavy on the cacophonous commotion and light on the romance or drama.
Sneider's underpowered feature looks at romance and machismo through a cross-cultural lens, its comments sometimes insightful, but most of the time frustratingly muted.
This is a simple movie directed simply and it's best when it doesn't try to swing above its weight class.
The comedic view of Gael Gacia Bernal, the elegant sensuality of Verónica Echegui, the beautiful snowy landscapes and a powerful soundtrack add up to a film that dignifies the genre of romantic comedy as much as it can. [Full Review in Spanish]
... works best when it strives to subvert generic roles... [Full review in Spanish]
I'm so glad Gael García Bernal is in this world even if You're Killing Me Susana doesn't add up the way it should.
This unusual romantic comedy offers some entertaining moments while keeping us guessing if Eligio and Susana will ever get back together again.
All said, the film shapes up as a mildly entertaining missed opportunity, notable for its performances, especially Bernal's.
