Movie Info

A hero turned heel has to decide what to do with what little honor he has left in this low-key drama from India. Mahendra (Kay Kay Menon) is a top Indian cricket player who enjoys a successful career on the field and a happy marriage to Neha (Tulip Joshi) until the day he meets Rasiklal (Satish Kaushik). Rasiklal is a illegal bookmaker who would stand to make a great deal of money if he could predict the outcome of upcoming cricket matches, and by cultivating Mahendra's friendship, he's able to convince him fix some games through a mixture of persuasion and bribery. While throwing matches proves to be profitable for both Mahendra and Rasiklal, the athlete becomes increasingly aware of the risks he's taking, but he doesn't stop himself until it's too late and he's found out. League authorities ban him from cricket for life, but now Mahendra has to decide if he should tell all he knows and implicate others, or offer a denial that he knows isn't true and no one is likely to believe. Shoonya (aka Zero Zone) was screened as part of the 2007 Rotterdam Film Festival. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi
