This Week's Ketchup includes news about possible sequels Toy Story 4 and Green Lantern 2, potential new roles for Denzel Washington and Haley Joel Osment and a few other unexpected adaptation concepts (like a movie based upon Disney's The Matterhorn).
This week's Ketchup is chock full of casting news for movies like Guillermo del Toro's Pacific Rim, Peter Jackson's movies based on The Hobbit, Quentin Tarantino's Django Unchained, Warren Beatty's movie about Howard Hughes, Zack Snyder's Superman reboot, Man of Steel, and the seven British actors who will be the Dwarfs in Snow White and the Huntsman.
There are Rotten Ideas in the Ketchup every week, but Hollywood went a little crazy this week, with almost enough major stories (8!) that could have nearly filled the entire column with Rotten Ideas. Sequels (G.I. Joe 2, James Bond 23, Salt 2, TRON 3) and remakes/reboots (Big Man Japan, Cherry 2000, Daredevil, King Kong, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) dominated the week. This writer has seen our cinematic future and it's very, very familiar.
This week's Ketchup includes tons of news for The Hangover star Bradley Cooper and others, news of biopics based on the lives of Jackie Robinson and Elizabeth Taylor, and a few comic book movies that include Hawkman.
During the two calendar weeks leading up and including the Cannes Film Festival, Hollywood goes sort of crazy with movie announcements. The result the week after the festival each year is a general drying up of big movie news items, and 2011 was no exception. The stories that did come out include casting news for The Dark Knight Rises, the Total Recall remake and the Snow White movie starring Julia Roberts.
This Week's Ketchup includes five movies about vampires or zombies, two remakes (Bloodsport and Carrie), new movies for Vin Diesel, Will Ferrell, Sir Ian McKellen, Mark Wahlberg and a few up-and-coming actresses, and news of the movie business fallout for the former governor of California.
This Week's Ketchup comes to you as the Cannes Film Festival is in full swing in France, which means dozens of new movies or movie roles were announced this week (literally dozens, the total I came up is 41). The ten stories that made the cut for the Weekly Ketchup include (potential) new roles for Jack Black, George Clooney, Johnny Depp, Keanu Reeves and Rachel Weisz, and new projects for directors Darren Aronofsky, Martin Scorsese and Barry Sonnenfeld.
As the film industry prepares for the start of the Cannes Film Festival on May 11, enough announcements were made this week to fill two editions of the Weekly Ketchup. Among the stories that made the cut are new projects for directors Kathryn Bigelow and Quentin Tarantino, the casting of supporting roles in Steven Spielberg's Lincoln biopic, remakes of Tomb Raider and Seven Samurai, and a Glee movie.
This Week's Ketchup either represents one of the worst seven days in recent movie news memory, or columnist Greg Dean Schmitz was just grumpy that he didn't get invited to the Royal Wedding (he loves wacky hats!). Aging action stars trying to revive their golden oldies (Terminator 5), a Justin Bieber basketball movie and an movie that reimagines Zorro as a sort of Mad Max figure are just three of the seven Rotten Ideas. On the brighter side are stories about The Lone Ranger, The Hunger Games (fingers still crossed on that one, at least) and a cool sounding new role for Jeff Bridges.
This Week's Ketchup saw many casting announcements, including new roles for Elizabeth Banks, Tom Cruise, James Franco, Jeremy Renner, Winona Ryder, Jason Statham and Denzel Washington and Bruce Willis. Also included in the news cycle are stories about The Bourne Legacy, Fast Six, The Hunger Games and Prom 2.
This Week's Ketchup includes casting news for both Man of Steel and The Dark Knight Rises, as well as the reboot of The Crow and two movies featuring the character of Pip from Great Expectations. Anne McCaffrey's Dragonriders of Pern and Ray Bradbury's The Martian Chronicles also had some big movie news this week.
This Week's Ketchup includes new roles for Steve Carell, Keira Knightley, Robert Redford, Keanu Reeves, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Hailee Steinfeld, Will Smith and Jaden Smith, as well as news about a possible Time Bandits remake and Peter Jackson's upcoming Adventures of Tintin movie.
This Week's Ketchup includes lots of news for DC Comics movies (Justice League, Green Lantern and the casting of Lois Lane), new movies for Jennifer Garner, Bill Murray, Hailee Steinfeld and the penguins from Madagascar.
This week's Ketchup includes casting rumors and news for The Dark Knight Rises and Superman: Man of Steel, news about the fourth entry in the Chronicles of Narnia series, The Amazing Spider-Man already getting a sequel and new movies for Nicolas Cage, Benicio del Toro, Salma Hayek, Kenan Thompson and John Travolta.
This Week's Ketchup includes casting news for The Hunger Games and Superman: Man of Steel, biopics about the Somali pirate hostage crisis and filmmaker Russ Meyer, the comic book adaptations Daredevil, Preacher and The Wolverine and half a dozen other science fiction projects.
This Week's Ketchup is yet again stacked to the brim with remakes and reboots (Superman, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Robocop, Peter Pan), at least two sequels (Percy Jackson, Blade Runner), and other new movies for Quentin Tarantino, Tim Allen and Tom Hanks.
Although this was sort of a slow news week, this week's Ketchup is chock full of space operas (Star Blazers and Prometheus) and remakes (Les MisÚrables, Ferdinand the Bull, Soapdish and The Bodyguard).
