Rating Title/Year Author
5/5 Kick-Ass (2010) Luke Edwards Amazing, gory and immersive fight scenes; punchy, side-splitting dialogue; excellent acting and utter originality are just a few of the good things about this film. EDIT

4/5 Green Zone (2010) Tom Howard Green Zone is a supremely slick flick which doesn't overdo the political dialogue and knows exactly when to blow up a car in a long and complicated action sequence. EDIT
Posted Mar 17, 2010
3/5 Shutter Island (2010) Tom Howard Neither Scorsese nor Di Caprio is at the top of their game in Shutter Island, but like all successful teams they know how to win when they're playing badly. Good not great. EDIT

2/5 Legion (2010) Luke Edwards If you like biblical tales and fancy a bit of action mixed with angelic references this will be worth a rental. The main message is, have faith. But be warned, this film will test yours. EDIT

4/5 Crazy Heart (2009) Tom Howard Although it's a bit like watching Jeff Bridges look you in the eyes, waft his boozy breath in your face and shout "CAN I HAVE AN OSCAR PLEASE?", it's difficult not to be charmed by everything about Crazy Heart. EDIT

4/5 A Single Man (2009) Stylish, dark, funny and right now, the ideal choice for a date you want to impress with your appreciation of fine film making. EDIT
Posted Feb 16, 2010
3/5 The Wolfman (2010) A good film, well produced with great sound and guaranteed shocks. EDIT
Posted Feb 16, 2010
Burlesque Undressed (2010) Luke Edwards A whole film of burlesque dancers doing burlesque dancing and talking about burlesque dancing. How can it possibly fail? EDIT
Posted Jan 22, 2010
3/5 Ninja Assassin (2009) Luke Edwards A bit of a let down. We expected more. EDIT
Posted Jan 22, 2010
4/5 44 Inch Chest (2009) Luke Edwards An impressive roller-coaster of emotional manipulation that grabs you by the soft bits, leads you and doesn't show signs of ever letting go. EDIT
Posted Jan 15, 2010
5/5 The Road (2009) One of the best films this year (and last!). Bleak, painful, charged with emotion and philosophical questions about how far we have evolved from animals when our comforts are taken away. A must see. EDIT
Posted Jan 8, 2010
4/5 Avatar (2009) Tom Howard It's 100% genuinely undeniably categorically without-a-doubt unlike anything you've ever seen before and if you like graphics and special effects and stuff that's totally new, you'll love it. EDIT
Posted Jan 5, 2010
4/5 Harry Brown (2009) Tom Howard Fast and blood-splattered, stinks of weed, underage sex, mindless murder, blind loyalty and flexible morals and doesn't sell out to a cheesy ending. EDIT
Posted Nov 13, 2009
4/5 Fish Tank (2009) Tom Howard Fish Tank is a simple but incredibly, almost unbelievably, powerful film. No man or woman with warm blood in their body will come away from it feeling chirpy. On the plus side, it's so reassuringly brilliant that you'll feel proud to be British. EDIT
Posted Sep 11, 2009
4/5 The Hurt Locker (2008) Tom Howard Most poignantly, it offers a different perspective on the war to the generally negative one on the news. EDIT
Posted Aug 29, 2009
3/5 Funny People (2009) Tom Howard It's very funny. And it's awesome to see Apatow have a bash at moving away from his undeniably successful formula. EDIT
Posted Aug 29, 2009
3/5 Inglourious Basterds (2009) Charlotte Smith QT is rediscovering his form: Basterds is a tense, punchy and darkly funny film. EDIT
Posted Aug 21, 2009
4/5 Brüno (2009) Better than Borat? No. But easily just as good, and twice as outrageous. EDIT
Posted Jul 10, 2009
5/5 Public Enemies (2009) Paul Salfen An on-the-spot, VIP ushering into the gangster movie hall of fame. It's a real movie, one which you'll be proud to say you paid to see. Eat that, Optimus. EDIT
Posted Jul 3, 2009
3/5 Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (2009) It's like watching a blender for two hours while someone shouts at you. And then the last half an hour is the same, except it's more like having your head strapped to a washing machine while you watch a blender and someone shouts at you. EDIT
Posted Jun 19, 2009
4/5 The Hangover (2009) Easily the funniest film of the year. A must-see. EDIT
Posted Jun 12, 2009
2/5 Terminator Salvation (2009) David Clack It was depressing. It made you feel foolish for ever being scared of Arnie or the melty dude from James Cameron's second film. It was stupefying. EDIT
Posted Jun 5, 2009
3/5 Star Trek (2009) Chris Bell If you realise that it has one aim - to introduce an entirely new audience to the franchise - and go into the cinema knowing that, then you'll have a good time. Unlike like me: I sat there with my arms folded, tutting a lot. EDIT
Posted May 8, 2009
4/5 Is Anybody There? (2008) Is Anybody There? proves that talent, not age, will ultimately define successful acting careers. EDIT
Posted May 1, 2009
3/5 X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009) That's not to say the action isn't hair raisingly exciting and regular, but it feels like the fight scenes are simply a break from a story that is being crammed in, rather than something being naturally told. EDIT
Posted May 1, 2009
5/5 Let the Right One In (2008) Charlotte Smith A beautiful, brutal yet understated film. EDIT
Posted Apr 17, 2009
3/5 Fast & Furious (2009) The action will get your heart racing like a shot of NOS to the eyeballs. However, that rush comes at a cost of a story-line comedown. If you're feeling simple, or drunk and stoned, this would be a perfect way to spend the night. EDIT
Posted Apr 9, 2009
4/5 Religulous (2008) It's not a cinematic event in the same way that nuclear Jihad would be, but that's exactly what Maher is pleading with humanity to avoid. A must-see. EDIT
Posted Apr 3, 2009
4/5 The Damned United (2009) People who haven't read the book will see a charming account of a man who will forever be a football legend, because he was witty and smart in a world dominated by money-grabbing dullards. EDIT
Posted Mar 27, 2009
4/5 Watchmen (2009) With reservations, the greatest graphic novel ever written gets a film that does it justice. Would have made an incredible mini-series for TV. Maybe next time? EDIT
Posted Feb 27, 2009
3/5 Punisher: War Zone (2008) Tom Howard As entertaining as Punisher: War Zone is, there's no real depth, the plot is obvious and it's a wee bit charmless. EDIT
