Rating Title/Year Author
D- Ad Astra (2019) Alachia Queen The film tries to tackle the dark side of human ambition but fails short of landing any impact. EDIT
Posted Sep 26, 2019
D- Rambo: Last Blood (2019) Alachia Queen The film started off as a promising hard R violent rip off of Taken but then took a sharp into dog poop. This is NOT the Rambo we all loved. EDIT
Posted Sep 23, 2019
C- It: Chapter Two (2019) Alachia Queen Basically a three hour version of the first film but the only change is the characters are adults and less charming. Not really worth a sequel. EDIT
Posted Sep 12, 2019
B- Once Upon a Time... In Hollywood (2019) Alachia Queen The movie is a meh-kay story on the surface but if you look deeper it's also a pretty compelling manifesto by Quentin Tarantino on New Hollywood. EDIT
Posted Jul 31, 2019
B+ Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019) Alachia Queen The film takes what it needs from the MCU and then uses the rest as punchlines. It works! This was a great summer comedy. EDIT
Posted Jul 24, 2019
C- Avengers: Endgame (2019) Alachia Queen The entire tone of the film felt like a eulogy to the MCU and relied too heavily on weepy eyed nostalgia and fan service moments to carry it to the end. EDIT
Posted Jun 13, 2019
F Hellboy (2019) Alachia Queen Very poor writing and an inconsistent story tone made this Hellboy reboot too hard to watch. EDIT
Posted Apr 18, 2019
C- Captain Marvel (2019) Alachia Queen Marvel gave a pretty mediocre answer to DC's Wonder Woman with this film but at least the cat was cool. EDIT
Posted Apr 14, 2019
D- Annihilation (2018) Alachia Queen It's all a metaphor involving a small group of suicidal women who are sent to on the most a critical planet saving mission. The movie like the mission was never going to succeed. EDIT
Posted Feb 27, 2019
B Alita: Battle Angel (2019) Alachia Queen This film is probably much more appreciated by fans of the manga but worth watching for the amazing ninjitsu-ninja assassin-martial arts and to see the greatest in visual effects to date. EDIT
Posted Feb 14, 2019
A- Glass (2019) Alachia Queen The obvious limitations of the film's budget for expensive visual effects made the movie focus more on the analytical dissection of what we've come to expect and love about super hero stories. The twist is, it worked. EDIT
Posted Jan 31, 2019
B The Favourite (2018) Alachia Queen A drastic change from Yargos Lanthimos's usual style of dispassionate commentary of societal transgressions, The Favourite is much more rhythmically paced and emotionally frank as it explores the intimacy of power dynamics in relationships. EDIT
Posted Jan 17, 2019
A- Sicario: Day of the Soldado (2018) Alachia Queen This film comes off more as a spin-off than a sequel to its morally ambiguous, psychological predecessor but offers a high-tension, fast paced action drama thriller that is just as potent. EDIT
Posted Jan 7, 2019
A Hereditary (2018) Alachia Queen Hereditary combines domestic drama and occult horror for a one-two punch that still has me knocked to the ground. EDIT
Posted Jan 3, 2019
A+ Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018) Alachia Queen Sony is asking us to take another leap off yet another Spider-man origin story, this time with Miles Morales. Lucky for Spider-man fans, with a fresh narrative, relationship building, and innovative visual effects, it's definitely a leap worth taking. EDIT
Posted Jan 3, 2019
C- Aquaman (2018) Alachia Queen It's good that Aquaman is so action packed and full of visual distractions that it doesn't leave you any time to reflect because once you stop to pause, the plot really sinks. EDIT
Posted Dec 17, 2018
C- Suspiria (2018) Alachia Queen I was promised a thrilling horror about a coven of witches but ended up with what seemed like a thesis on German culture in the late 1970s. EDIT
Posted Dec 14, 2018
B Venom (2018) Alachia Queen Venom serves up a menu of spicy hard PG-13 action but also includes a well balanced sampling of scrumptiously surprising buddy humor between an unemployed reporter and a flesh eating symbiote. We're ready for the second course. EDIT
Posted Oct 12, 2018
B+ Mandy (2018) Alachia Queen While Mandy doesn't offer anything new to the vengeance genre in terms of plot, it has an immense amount of visual imagery and symbolism that drives the film beyond your typical revenge porn into a fantastical thesis of psychosis. EDIT
Posted Sep 19, 2018
D The Predator (2018) Alachia Queen While the violence is solid, the ludicrous science expositions that carry the plot along and unfortunate flat humor had me confused. Is this the Predator film or a joke? EDIT
Posted Sep 14, 2018
C+ Crazy Rich Asians (2018) Alachia Queen As a romantic comedy, this film has nothing new to offer except the rise of a new comedy star, Awkwafina. EDIT
Posted Aug 23, 2018
B Deadpool 2 (2018) Alachia Queen Hilarious movie however the jokes overpower every other aspect of the movie so much so that you wonder if Deadpool is getting his own Netflix comedy special. EDIT
Posted May 22, 2018
A- Avengers: Infinity War (2018) Alachia Queen While the MCU still hasn't gotten the formula quite right for true villainy, they have certainly mastered the equation for entertaining banter & epic superhero moments. EDIT
Posted May 2, 2018
A- The Florida Project (2017) Alachia Queen Another great Sean Baker piece that finds a way to make a heartbreaking story about poverty into a bittersweet adventure as told through through the precocious eyes of a Moonee and her mother Halley. EDIT
Posted Mar 3, 2018
A- I, Tonya (2017) Alachia Queen A great unexpected dark comedy that entertainingly demonstrates how all narratives are biased. EDIT
Posted Mar 3, 2018
C- Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri (2017) Alachia Queen My takeaway from this thesis on anger is that it's okay to be a c-nt but not a dick. EDIT
Posted Mar 2, 2018
C Call Me by Your Name (2017) Alachia Queen I appreciated the film quality and the acting but the story meandered in superficial courtship for too long without delivering actual connection. It was all foreplay and no action. Perhaps the sequel will make this film more appealing to me in the future. EDIT
Posted Feb 21, 2018
A- Black Panther (2018) Alachia Queen Black Panther definitely doesn't do anything outside of the Disney Marvel comfort zone but it's as solid a film as a super hero origin story can be. EDIT
Posted Feb 16, 2018
C Lady Bird (2017) Alachia Queen Just like its title character, Lady Bird is quirky and sentimental but despite best attempts, never really defines itself into anything meaningful. EDIT
Posted Feb 15, 2018
F Fifty Shades Freed (2018) Alachia Queen For about a minute into the movie, I thought there was a chance this was going to be an actual film but then the dialogue began and it went straight to fanfic. EDIT
Posted Feb 13, 2018
C+ Hostiles (2017) Alachia Queen A meaningful, harsh and authentic look at the toll the expansion to the west took on civilians, Native Americans, and soldiers. EDIT
Posted Feb 13, 2018
B The Shape of Water (2017) Alachia Queen A unique and original science fiction love story that is sometimes weighed down too heavily by an unoriginal villain plot line. EDIT
Posted Jan 26, 2018
A The Killing of a Sacred Deer (2017) Alachia Queen Yorgos Lanthimos has once again shown he's a master at metaphorical drama as he explores the abstract moral distinction between guilt and responsibility. EDIT
Posted Jan 8, 2018
B+ Molly's Game (2017) Alachia Queen While the shell of this movie is a biopic of a conflicted, tenacious woman, the heart of it is an intriguing psychological drama about the game of poker. EDIT
Posted Jan 5, 2018
C+ The Disaster Artist (2017) Alachia Queen The Disaster Artist unfortunately takes Wiseau as seriously as he took himself during the filming of The Room, but at least it provides some insight as to why the "worst movie" ever made was created. EDIT
Posted Dec 27, 2017
A- Bright (2017) Alachia Queen If you had told me that one day we'd get an R-Rated buddy cop movie with centaur police, orc gang bangers, socialite elves, and dragons flying under the an LA moon, I would never have believed it. EDIT
Posted Dec 23, 2017
B King Arthur: Legend of the Sword (2017) Alachia Queen Despite being marketed as historical fiction King Arthur story, this film is actually a high octane full on fantasy film that showcases Excalibur guiding Arthur to his destiny. And it's thrilling! EDIT
Posted Dec 22, 2017
C- Star Wars: The Last Jedi (2017) Alachia Queen Although not worse than the prequels for me, The Last Jedi is its own special kind of meh that demonstrates Disney doesn't have the guts to do this franchise any justice. EDIT
Posted Dec 21, 2017
A Logan (2017) Alachia Queen You mean this is the Wolverine we could have always had? Of course this would be the last one. Logan is a fantastically dark and satisfying story ending for this Hugh Jackman's Wolverine. EDIT
Posted Nov 30, 2017
B+ Justice League (2017) Alachia Queen The patchwork editing of this film matches the patchwork job Warner Bros is trying to do with the DCEU. While the result is a messy and ugly film, it successfully makes this super hero franchise finally fit right with the fans. EDIT
Posted Nov 21, 2017
A+ Wind River (2017) Alachia Queen It is intense, It is amazing. I loved the story. I loved every moment of the film. Taylor Sheridan is 3 for 3. EDIT
Posted Nov 16, 2017
C- mother! (2017) Alachia Queen It's truly an expressive art piece at a surprise auction. Bidding starts at "intriguing" and is sold at "at least it made you think" EDIT
Posted Nov 15, 2017
A- Blade Runner 2049 (2017) Alachia Queen If you want to bask in a stylistic expression of the introspective search for self, you won't be disappointed. EDIT
Posted Nov 15, 2017
C+ Thor: Ragnarok (2017) Alachia Queen Thor Ragnarok takes you on a visually psychedelic adventure that sadly goes absolutely nowhere. EDIT
