The Grinch (2018)
The Grinch is still about kindness and learning to go beyond material goods to find happiness, and isn't that what the holiday season is all about? Plus kids are going to love it.

You'll leave grinning and humming Queen anthems for days to come.

We know we're in trouble when the credits describe what we're about to watch as "Six Acts and an Epilogue in a Divided Berlin." Woof.

It's clear Gordon and his writing team adore Carpenter's vision and they made wise choices in honoring it.

Crazy Rich Asians (2018)
See this movie you must. Maybe you won't fall in love, but you'll for sure want to go steady for a while - at least for the two hours you're in the theater.

The Spy Who Dumped Me (2018)
What "The Spy Who Dumped Me" makes abundantly clear is that the movies do not know what to do with McKinnon's energy and comedic skills.

Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again (2018)
"Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again" proves conclusively that Pierce Brosnan can't sing. Or dance. Which makes him perfect for the original musical and its sequel.

While it's got its faults, "Fallen Kingdom" provides plenty of thrills.

The situations in which they find themselves are often crazy hilarious - if you like cartoonish, slapstick violence a la the Three Stooges. Generally, I'm not a fan, but there's a good-natured quality that elevates it all to the level of hijinks.

Ocean's 8 (2018)
In a summer of heist movies, this is the fun one to see.

Book Club (2018)
It's Keaton and Bergen who carry the film (and to a lesser extent, Mary Steenburgen), and the two of them are funny, charming and believable.

Life of the Party (2018)
I'm pretty sure you have better things to do.
Posted May 10, 2018
It tackles subject matter that seldom finds its way to the big screen and does it thoughtfully. It's not what I expected to see, but it's just maybe something I needed to see.

An edge-of-your-seat family drama that just happens to have monsters.

Soderbergh uses, to great effect, techniques any fan of ghost-hunting TV shows will recognize - and all on an iPhone 7 Plus! He also stays close to the actors, ratcheting up the tension even more.

What kids, and yes, adults, too, will respond to is the eye-popping color, fast pace, music and the humor. But don't forget, parents, that this is a movie about death. Coco doesn't shy away from it, and there are sad moments, too.
