Killers (2010)
Killers leaves Heigl and Kutcher to bicker over issues of trust and betrayal; being in danger causes more problems in their marriage than it resolves. Killers isn't an entertainment, it's a high-speed spat.

Hill, dialing back on the pissy vulgarity of his supporting roles in Knocked Up and Funny People, makes the perfect foil, as passive and impressionable as Brand is reckless and impulsive.

Splice (2010)
Shooting with a cool reserve and a steely-blue color palette, Natali keeps the film unsettling by using icky creature effects, but just as often by offering up grotesque caricatures of real-life parenting discomforts...

Ondine (2010)
Ondine looks heavy and it ends up feeling a little slight, but between those two extremes there's a beguiling siren song of a movie about the way the unexpected has a way of intruding on even the most fatalistic lives.

Call it the Frozen Assets Rule: If the one-joke premise of a comedy is accompanied -- or begs to be accompanied -- by the sound of a record scratching, avert your eyes.

As a Romero project, Survival Of The Dead is a frustrating disappointment, nowhere close to the director's classic '70s films -- though it is better than Romero's last "reboot" zombie effort, Diary Of The Dead.

The Father Of My Children is largely about how life drifts by, and how we don't always leave the mark in the world that we'd hoped, so Hansen-Løve resists the urge to overdramatize or over-stress.

Micmacs is an enjoyably weightless farce, a slapdash, stylish Rube Goldberg device made out of people instead of mechanical parts.

Spinning a handsome Disney adventure out of a videogame is a testament to Bruckheimer's commercial savvy. The fact that it still isn't particularly good seems beside the point.

Kids' movies are rarely profoundly thoughtful, but there's no reason to be this insulting about it, either.

Solitary Man (2010)
Douglas makes all the contrivances feel like universal, soul-testing dilemmas. He encourages the audience to lean in and watch him close, to pick up a few tips on how to look cool while melting down.

A major problem with trying to make a romantic drama out of the history of Hawaii's Princess Ka'iulani is that she died young, with relatively little chance for romance or drama.

The movie began life as a series of museum pieces, and it retains the transportive effect of a well-conceived exhibit.

Robin Hood (2010)
While Scott is one of the few directors who could field-marshal this sort of spectacle and still deliver a coherent film, simply ending up with a fitfully engaging behemoth of a movie isn't accomplishment enough.

It would feel overly theatrical if Watts, Bening, and Washington didn't convey the vulnerability beneath every firm demurral, lacerating insult, and refusal to engage.

From the jokes about Hutton overreacting to his daughter's menstruation to the comic ruminations about the relative attractiveness of genitalia, Multiple Sarcasms often plays like a bad stand-up routine dramatized by serious actors.

Please Give (2010)
Some people might find it distasteful to make a movie about guilty rich folks who give themselves permission to splurge. Others will rightly appreciate the honesty.

Harry Brown (2010)
Caine's weary, quietly towering performance as a lonely widower who does battle with local hooligans is a classic case of lipstick on a pig, obscuring the film's roots as simple-minded, reactionary swill of the Death Wish school.

The film cops virtually every memorable image from the original, but loses the depth that gave them power and the sense of place that grounded them.

The cast of superficial backstabbers, casual philanderers, and gibberish-spouting phonies has no original characters, but at least a few of the actors attack their roles with a zest that offsets their two-dimensionality.

Though it's a ramshackle piece of filmmaking, Best Worst Movie is an honest one, too, staying open to awkward, humbling moments while still making a solid case for the film's immortal badness.
