Critic Reviews for Helix Season 1

Helix is initially involving, but it gradually loses energy as we realize we have a long slog ahead before all the secrets are revealed and the plot resolved.

You like this kind of thing or you don't, and I don't, particularly, but Helix is very involving, giving us characters to care about even in the midst of so much necessary setup.

There's definitely some fraying at the edges along with all of those odd fluids oozing from various orifices of the afflicted.

It's not too geeky a story, so someone who just likes suspense drama can follow it.

Perhaps in time Helix will develop into something more substantial but in its first two hours it sets up a lot of questions without providing answers or a compelling reason for viewers to stick with it.

Everyone loves a good outbreak drama... and Helix delivers.

It is thoroughly creepy and made even more so by upbeat counterpoints like a sound system playing Dionne Warwick's "Do You Know the Way to San Jose?" over and over.

If Helix continues to build on the momentum set in its first few hours, we're in for a truly suspenseful and thrilling ride.

It's a delicate balancing act, but the premiere dangles enough DNA strands for a discerning audience to want to see where they might lead.

Has one of the most compelling and confident openings since Battlestar Galactica, but goes hilariously off the rails around the mid-season mark.

Helix started off quite well, a group of scientist trapped inside an institue in the Arctic trying to find the cure to a deadly contagious virus that turns people into goo dripping madmen. The series felt short on the fact that events seemed too episodic, incredibly unrealistic. Many questions were left unanswered, the character relationships and side plots bored me to death. Helix also had the tendency of killing likable characters, making me frustrated as the interesting characters on the show kept on dying and we are left to endure the relationship drama. I honestly don't know how they are going to make a season 2 but we'll see.
