Critic Reviews for Helix Season 2

All Critics (6) | Top Critics (1)

Helix is the stoned college sophomore of television: full of weighty philosophical notions and fun ideas, but no clue how to explain them or execute its plans.

This episode was delightfully confusing and intriguing. There are a ton of new questions/mysteries.

While this show is known for its insane twists and turns, Helix Season 2 Episode 1 definitely takes the cake... I love that the second season feels like a reboot.

Jan 21, 2015 | Rating: 4.7/5 | Full Review…

Helix should be a fun, exciting, and horrific adventure this time around.

Jan 20, 2015 | Full Review…

Helix does a fine job of creating a creepy vibe in its second-season opener, and though a lot of information from the first season has to be re-established, the drama hits the ground running and quickly builds up an effectively mysterious atmosphere.

Jan 20, 2015 | Full Review…

The new location and vastly different stakes have really given the show a breath of fresh air, and have created an environment where Helix could, in theory, go on for many more seasons.

Audience Reviews for Helix: Season 2

Season 2 brings more terrifying and intriguing plot to the show, the CDC team wsa once again sent out to the wilderness to investigate another outbreak of a deadly contagion. On the Island of the possible origin of the outbreak, a mysterious cult holds dark secrets; Ilaria is also having their own agenda. The team must race to find a cure but also survive their 2 week adventure on the island. Initially started off slow and confusing but soon made more sense as secrets are revealed. I love the juxtaposition of old music with violence on screen, it makes the show even more terrifying than it would have been. The characters also showed development from season 1, new characters were great too. Helix is sci-fi excellent investment.

Season 1 - that I found enjoyable at the start but it just got silly at the end. Season 2 - NOTHING MAKES SENSE! It's like half of the scenes of ten thousand story ideas ended up being cut and they just spliced the leftovers together to create this plotline. I was bewildered from start to finish and glad they decided to end the series because it had just become a joke. At least the first season actually started with a fantastic plotline and everything, but all this has is the cast in a lousy season. Don't cry too hard if you miss it.

How do you guys even compare the second season with the first? First season was GREAT! A RARE syfy exception to shitty campy low IQ comedies... season 2 started out with promise... but by the end was as campy and silly as sharknado 5. Fuck you syfy. and fuck all you reviewers who thought season 2 was worth watching. you are what's wrong with society!

Season 1 was ok season 2 was shit Do yourself a favor and find something else to watch

Endless gore, graphic dismemberment, and horrific scenes of cruelty towards women does not make up for a weak plot and a near non-existent story. Very disappointing.

It's hard to describe Helix. It certainly has a style that I can appreciate, the approach taken by the directors and producers is unusual (in a great way). Once you have been watching a while you will notice certain scenes find very different ways to reach a dramatic effect. After seeing the second season, which shows where next season will go, I can't wait for it to return. There are not a lot of shows on regular television that are much different than just a bunch of rehashed situations with either drama romance or comedy or all three or whatever... However, Helix seems to ignite your intellectual side from time to time (if you have it) while it also requires you to be up to date on what has happened for events to make sense and become interesting. We need more shows like Helix, and I appreciate what SyFy has been doing here. Also looking forward to their upcoming Expanse which is based on a fabulous ongoing set of books (i.e. game of thrones).

This show is amazing. Not because it has good writing or a good plot, in fact, both of those are garbage. But because it has a few amazing scenes which, in watching, have been the most exhilarating experiences I've had watching television. The bloated, nonsensical plot is well worth these few scenes.
