We rarely see hosting partnerships that are true partnerships. The late-night talk format could use some shaking up, and the best way to shake it up on a more regular basis might be to send in the Queens.

Ms. Williams and Ms. Robinson share an obvious comfort with each other and a confidence in their ability as performers. As a result, the show feels both spontaneous and polished like a ruby.

Not everyone who does a podcast is ready for prime time but, in the case of Jessica Williams and Phoebe Robinson, they're not only ready, they deserve an actual prime-time slot on HBO and immediate extension beyond the four episodes.

Witnessing the chemistry between 2 Dope Queens hosts Jessica Williams and Phoebe Robinson, it's hard to imagine that this partnership kicked off just a few years ago.

Network money gives them a fancy set - a rooftop overlooking the New York skyline - a wig and wardrobe budget and a big, elegant space in which to play, the Kings Theatre in Brooklyn, with no loss of the original's scrappy delightfulness.

2 Dope Queens plays as nothing less than an extended audition for a talk show or comedy showcase that you're going to be upset isn't airing weekly, or even nightly, in perpetuity.
