Black Lady Sketch Show doesn't disappoint. Thede and her writing staff have a great eye for situations that start out in a normal place and slowly curl in on themselves until they're weirder and weirder and weirder.

A Black Lady Sketch Show is so good that it's positively dumbfounded me.

The ladies, who clearly are all BFFs, are effortlessly, amazingly funny. They poke fun at issues specific to black women, like the care and maintenance of hair... They also take sharp aim at racial issues.

A Black Lady Sketch Show shifts the focus back to where it should always have been.

In this first episode alone I found myself cracking up at just how good all the women are at the physical comedy, but also going so deep into each character-and like all good comedy, being able to take some jabs at society.

The series isn't just breaking ground because it's a black sketch show airing at the same time as another black sketch show: This type of thing just hasn't been done.

"A Black Lady Sketch Show" is a shining example of the great work you get when equality comes to comedy. The only criticism I have is that it took so long for us to get here.
August 2, 2019
The lightning-fast sketches manage to be universal and specific, enjoyable by more than just its obvious target demographic, but also serving an audience long ignored by Hollywood or thought of as "not ready" or "not funny."

It's not a surprise that ABLSS explores where womanhood and gender intersect with the Black experience, but the way it explores these topics and the conclusions it draws are novel.
