A far, far better adaptation might have been possible if the considerable talent behind the “Tale” had been more constructively liberated. Go to Full Review

As Madame Defarge , who will become the symbol of the revolution’s bloodthirsty overreach, Duran is splendid; she’s a monster, finally, but layered and human. She has her reasons. Go to Full Review

This series gives contemporary layers to characters in this retelling of a classic. Go to Full Review

Everything seems smaller and more artificial than Dickensian imagery demands. Kit Harington also suffers from this lack of depth, continuing his losing battle against the memory of Jon Snow. [Full review in Spanish] Go to Full Review

A Tale of Two Cities as a television series has now given me renewed interest in going back and exploring more of Charles Dickens’ work I have yet to read, but I may opt to rewatch this interpretation on the story before I do. Go to Full Review

LimaNYDC . @LimaNYDC 3 days ago Touching, great acting, tragic story. Loved it! See more Leigh S @salsy67 6 days ago An adaptation worth watching. Kit Harrington’s performance is excellent. See more Mone C @Mone77 Oct 7, 2026 What a lousy series. If it weren't for Kit Harington carrying the show on his back, it would be unwatchable. That scene where Thérèse gets shot was ridiculous and poorly executed. Lucie is such an insufferable character, a vile, trashy woman, and the actress playing her is terrible, she couldn't shed a single tear while reading Sydney's letter in the carriage. I actually liked the first two episodes, but the last two are awful, except for Kit Harington's performance, which was impeccable as always. The book is infinitely better. See more Dee K @RT88950430 Oct 7, 2026 Grand Finale...4/5; rest of the movie 2/5 See more Jim A @RT49271856 Oct 5, 2026 It is, quite simply, the worst of times. A shallow, misguided mess that trades Charles Dickens’s intricate masterwork for trendy executive posturing and hackneyed storytelling. Rather than leaning into the haunting duality, moral weight, and dark, revolutionary fervor of the source material, writer Daniel West and the production team have mangled the narrative to suit contemporary television tropes. The plot rewrites are nothing short of ridiculous: forced romance arcs, absurd melodrama, and a fundamental butchering of the story’s political and philosophical core. Between the bizarre narrative departures, the dismantling of foundational characters, and a cast that feels utterly out of place in Revolutionary France, MGM+ has delivered an adaptation that fails on almost every level. See more joey S @RT48607712 Oct 4, 2026 The 2026 adaptation of A Tale of Two Cities is an absolute triumph! Over its 4 episodes, it perfectly balances a gritty, atmospheric story of revolution with deep emotional weight. The absolute standout is Kit Harington as Sydney Carton. He delivers a powerhouse performance, capturing Carton’s cynical, self-loathing exterior while showing a heartbreaking vulnerability. He completely sheds his past roles, anchoring the entire series and building to a stunning, unforgettable finale. A career-defining performance in a must-watch modern adaptation!
