Adesuwa Oni's sensitive, fierce performance is an admirable beginning to make up for our collective knowledge gap. The British actor's portrayal is an artful balance of athleticism with the emotional and psychological dexterity required of Njinga. Go to Full Review

In general it lacks context or deeper analysis beyond the straight recounting of Njinga’s biography. Go to Full Review

Njinga’s forgotten story is brought to life with tremendous skill and artistry, making it as entertaining as it is important. Go to Full Review

African Queens: Njinga might only serve as an introduction to the figure of Njinga and not provide any sturdy analysis, but it’s an introduction that’s well worth having. Go to Full Review

Helleken S 06/19/2023 Okay , decent but holy S.. why did they buther this great AND horrible woman to make her into that "GirlBoss" she wasn't ? She sacrified so much for her People? well ye,s for example ehr own people, and she even sacrified childs to ensure an alliance if it suited her.. She was a massively controversial Figure that was truely gruesome and horrible while also being caring and kind , depending on the box you were standing in. you had GOLD in your hand and decided to turn it into a Paper weight with a slogan stamped on it. WHY? This is one of the most wretched and colorful human female adult persons on the planet and you made her all about "U go gurrrl" .. A strong woman, told how it should be told. Don't listen to the keyboard warriors. See more Tar W @Tarwater 05/15/2023 The problem with some of these Netflix series is how cheaply they're made. The production itself looks poor, and the drama devolves into a painful type of melodrama. None of it feels authentic or looks authentic, and it's kind of a pulpy, silly rendition of something that could've been really cool in the right hands. Not sure if Netflix doesn't care or agreed to do this series as a favor to Will Smith for Bright, but it deserved better across the board. What we're left with is a schmaltzy, ham-fisted show that borders on farcical. See more Doug B @DB108 04/19/2023 As bad as it gets. Sad rewrites and misinterpretations of history.
