In place of anything startlingly new, Gibney and his team offer refreshing cohesiveness, vivid hindsight, and imperative journalism.

The filmmakers reach the sobering, seemingly hard-to-refute conclusion that if Putin's intentions were to stoke dysfunction and discord in the United States, he bet on the right horse.

For as much research as Gibney and company clearly did in order to build the series on firm ground, in the absence of any rock solid answers, [It] ends up drawing frustratingly simplistic connections between its more fascinating themes.

"Agents of Chaos" gives us a great blueprint of how all this happened. Too often daily revelations are overwhelming and Gibney does a superb job linking them coherently. But Trump's odd orientation toward Putin is left to pure speculation.

Agents of Chaos may not move anybody's understanding beyond that "uncertainty," and if your instinct is to prefer decisive perspectives or answers, this may not be satisfying.

Insightful docu about foreign meddling in the 2016 election.

All of this is presented in Gibney's typical docu-journalism style, with flashy graphics, evocative music, and Gibney's calm, collected narration.

"Agent of Chaos" shouldn't be essential viewing, but it is because we still can't collectively understand that this is a thing that happened and somehow continues to happen.

Agents of Chaos is an incredibly rich examination of the most pressing concern around the 2016 U.S. Presidential Election.

With the weight of each skullduggerous act unclear, the documentary unspooled like an uneasy timeline reel, laden with promises of payoffs it couldn't achieve.

Given the show's flaws, why is "Agents of Chaos" still so clearly worthy of four hours of your time? Easy: So that nobody can claim ignorance when Russia interferes in U.S. democracy once again this November, and in 2024, 2028

Straightforwardly lays out the mistakes of the past and the dangers of the future... what at first looks like a giant tangle of messy wires becomes a frighteningly clear blueprint for disaster.

Audience Reviews for Agents of Chaos: Miniseries

  • Oct 14, 2020
Excellent documentary. It really lines everything up from tip-to-toe. See that other reviewer that called it "biased"? Of course it's biased, it's biased towards the truth. Like the documentary says, this isn't about Left Vs Right anymore, it's about Truth vs Lies. Trump will lose in 2020 and he will go to prison. And it will be justice.

It went well until the last few minutes. Then, RUSSIAN COLLUSION!!! LOL LOL LOL What a joke.
  • Oct 02, 2020
Spot on portrayal of what happened in 2016. Especially the technical hacking aspects, which I am an expert in, they explain it perfectly to the layman.
  • Sep 25, 2020
Very biased portrayal of what happened in 2016. Ignores all the facts about the dirty games the FBI was playing with FISA warrants. And a lot of the people they interviewed have close ties to the DNC and Clintons. Seemed like a fluff piece. Couldn't finish the last episode; 2 hours is way more than enough.
