What to Know

Critics Consensus

Agents of Chaos' lack of larger conclusions may frustrate, but Alex Gibney's extensive reporting helps make some sense of the small moments that added up to the controversial 2016 election.

The filmmakers reach the sobering, seemingly hard-to-refute conclusion that if Putin's intentions were to stoke dysfunction and discord in the United States, he bet on the right horse. Go to Full Review

For as much research as Gibney and company clearly did in order to build the series on firm ground, in the absence of any rock solid answers, [It] ends up drawing frustratingly simplistic connections between its more fascinating themes. Go to Full Review

In place of anything startlingly new, Gibney and his team offer refreshing cohesiveness, vivid hindsight, and imperative journalism. Go to Full Review

All of this is presented in Gibney's typical docu-journalism style, with flashy graphics, evocative music, and Gibney's calm, collected narration. Go to Full Review

"Agent of Chaos" shouldn't be essential viewing, but it is because we still can't collectively understand that this is a thing that happened and somehow continues to happen. Go to Full Review

Randy B 11/02/2022 Talked about politicians use information against each other in the US and outside of the US, which is nothing new. However, as with many documentaries it has a narrative of being bias towards one side therefore it tells you want it wants you to hear and with little to no evidence. It takes people who you think would tell the truth and bring legitimacy to their narrative. However, every person has a bias and an agenda to what they say and why they say it. Use critical thinking and don't be a fool. We The People must not be easily manipulated by either side. It's too bad the director of this movie, Alex Gibney, doesn't have the integrity to provide unbiased information to the people. He is just like the politicians and likely was paid by one side to provide this bias narrative within his movie. See more 11/08/2020 Great documentary that highlights the strengths and fragility of a system where people have the power and must be wary of collective manipulation. The strength of America has always been unity through diversity. This unity may be drowned out by false actors without real faces on the internet. As Americans, there is a lesson to be learned on taking all things on the internet to be true, from superpowers posed as ordinary citizens, to reviewers on this very site who may post positive or negative comments on this documentary. It's time to think, not only about the facts, but who would want us to think them to be true. See more k r @runtheplacered 10/14/2020 Excellent documentary. It really lines everything up from tip-to-toe. See that other reviewer that called it "biased"? Of course it's biased, it's biased towards the truth. Like the documentary says, this isn't about Left Vs Right anymore, it's about Truth vs Lies. Trump will lose in 2020 and he will go to prison. And it will be justice. See more 10/14/2020 It went well until the last few minutes. Then, RUSSIAN COLLUSION!!! LOL LOL LOL What a joke. See more 10/02/2020 Spot on portrayal of what happened in 2016. Especially the technical hacking aspects, which I am an expert in, they explain it perfectly to the layman. See more 09/25/2020 Very biased portrayal of what happened in 2016. Ignores all the facts about the dirty games the FBI was playing with FISA warrants. And a lot of the people they interviewed have close ties to the DNC and Clintons. Seemed like a fluff piece. Couldn't finish the last episode; 2 hours is way more than enough. See more Read all reviews
