Even though the show leaves in pretty much the same place as it started, it is still a must-watch. So, if you want something to take your mind away from the daily grind, this is a show you should absolutely be watching.

Aggretsuko is not only an insightful portrait of work culture, but an ode to female empowerment.

Aggretsuko is a pretty honest look at blood-boiling workplace interactions and the kind of sexism that women face in modern work settings. Although it can be pretty over-the-top, the show feels very real in many ways.

It's a lovely little twist on kawaii characters like Hello Kitty and a wonderful outlet for everyone's inner frustrations trapped by outward social niceties.

While an anime about Hello Kitty animals may not sound highbrow, Aggretsuko somehow resonates with anyone whose life's reality has circumvented their expectations.

Behind the adorable character designs and welcoming cut-out style, Aggretsuko hides a frank look at the existential dread of a generation.

The synopsis for Aggretsuko sounds like a parody of anime that Adult Swim would make a fake commercial for. It just seems too cutesy and gimmicky to actually work. Yet, by some miracle of skill and commitment, the show is kind of genius.

Aggretsuko creates a relatable character in relatable situations and even makes a relatable way to let out steam when we find ourselves in those situations

With its simple yet colorful animation and bold lines, Aggretsuko is an approachable anime with hidden depths. Like Bojack Horseman, it uses talking animals to tell a story that's by turns melancholy and delightful.

If you want a show that will make you want to laugh, cringe, and scream along to death metal all wrapped in adorable animation, then Aggretsuko is the show for you.

Fenneko has the best laugh. THE BEST.

It's the sort of thing that an office worker might doodle on a napkin during a rare break in the day, or what an exhausted brain might dream up late at night as sleep becomes elusive.

Aggretsuko is well on her way to becoming an all-time favorite Sanrio character.
May 29, 2018
That's really what makes Aggretsuko so relatable, even if the circumstances of its main character's life don't exactly map onto yours.
May 18, 2018
Aggretsuko gets that corporate life can be miserable, but there's something oddly comforting to that bleak observation. You may hate your day job, but Retsuko hates her's more.
May 18, 2018
If Hello Kitty is a blank canvas ready for all manner of brand partnerships, Aggretsuko is her polar opposite: she is the frenzied energy of a Jackson Pollock painting, and it's comprised only of red and black paint.
May 18, 2018
Aggretsuko only looks like it's aimed at the young girls who squeal over wee Hello Kitty notepads, or My Melody squishy key chains -- its real audience is the growing cadre of girls and women who have had enough.

Aggretsuko isn't some unflinching nightmare, though, as it also has some great moments of weird comedy.

And that is the crux of "Aggretsuko's" problem. As it stands, this delightful season is more like filling up on Costco samples than a more substantial series binge. That's no doubt part of its charm.

It's funny, it's silly, it's serious, and it's a bit morose. Even so, it still gives me hope in a strange, bittersweet kind of way.
