In this futuristic cop show, the Newcomers are aliens from the planet Tencton whose spaceship, a slave ship, crash-landed in the Mojave Desert in the early '90s. Now 1995 (the near future, as the show aired 1989-90), the plot of the series revolves around Newcomer George Francisco and his partner Matt Sikes, who are both detectives for the LAPD. They clash on several levels, the least of which is not Matt's propensity for rash decisions and violence vs. George's quiet, introspective analysis.

Spawned from the slightly less disappointing Graham Baker film of the same name, Alien Nation succeeds in taking everything that didn't work about the movie and straining it through the dodgy production values of late '80s TV. Go to Full Review

Children might enjoy the show, and they certainly won't miss the points about bigotry that are hammered over the viewer's head. Go to Full Review

But despite that title and science-fiction aspirations, Alien Nation is mostly a routine humanoid in extraterrestrial clothing and a heavy-handed metaphor for earthly social injustice. Go to Full Review

This metaphor for racial relations in the United States is about as subtle as having a spaceship crash-land on your head -- and about as much fun. Go to Full Review

You could argue that the lecture doesn't need to be delivered in such a heavy-handed way, but, looking at the headlines these days, it's clear the subject is timely. Go to Full Review

In spite of how I initially disliked the show, I found myself becoming more and more involved as I progressed through the episodes. Go to Full Review

SOTURICAT Jul 8 Honestly Alien Nation tv series was / is Best from the 80s It would be a time to explore Alien Nation universe again. Maybe movie or TV series reboot or sequel to original tv serie. See more 11/28/2019 I am loving the series. Its a modern commentary of today but made in the 90s. Good performances, the show was sadly cancelled because Fox freaked that year See more 12/03/2018 How can You People Not ... I Give Up, I Alien Nation besides the Movie the Show was Awesome. Please If ou Have a Chance Watch It... Good Shit See more 06/09/2018 Excellent series. A bit heavy handed? Perhaps, yet considering we're still dealing with these issues nearly 30 years on, i'd say it's pretty relevant. It also does not feel dated and is a wonderful show, exploring many aspects of alien and human life, with well-developed and engaging characters. See more Read all reviews
