Allegiance: Season 1 (2015)

Season 1

Critics Consensus

Allegiance is entertaining enough, but lacks the subtlety and tension that set apart superior spy dramas.

Tv Season Info

In the first and only season of this family-espionage drama, CIA rookie Alex O'Connor (Gavin Stenhouse) is assigned his first case and winds up unknowingly investigating his parents, Katya (Hope Davis) and Mark (Scott Cohen). He soon learns that they're sleeper Russian agents who've recently been reactivated, and that his older sister, Natalie (Margarita Levieva), is also a Russian spy. The Russians pressure the O'Connors to recruit Alex, who's highly desirable to them with his CIA access. Critic Reviews for Allegiance Season 1

All Critics (32) | Top Critics (17)

For the foreseeable future, the family drama will dominate Allegiance. Unfortunately, the sleepers are a bit of a snooze.

Its lead characters for the most part are appealing and accessible, even if their machinations aren't always well-oiled.

If there were no The Americans on FX, then Allegiance on NBC would be a welcome new drama. But there is, so it isn't, since there are so many quality dramas vying for attention these days.

There's a bit of funny buddy comedy with the CIA station chief in New York (Kenneth Choi) schooling Alex in spycraft, but the hyper-complicated family dynamics is what is keeping me tuned in.

Great New York setting, fine New York actors, smart writing, so what's wrong? Allegiance is hard to love and believe.

Tune in Allegiance with unbiased expectations and be prepared to squint at some of the implausibilities, and you might find it perfectly enjoyable.

The premise is interesting, and the family drama has potential.

Feb 5, 2015 | Rating: 6/10 | Full Review…

If law enforcement really was as dumb as portrayed in NBC's Allegiance, we'd all be speaking Russian and pledging our lives to Vladimir Putin.

Just a preposterous thriller.

Feb 5, 2015 | Rating: 2.5/5 | Full Review…

Allegiance does a decent job of propping up its crazy premise with some juicy intrigue and solid performances, though [Gavin] Stenhouse comes off as rather bland.

Audience Reviews for Allegiance: Season 1

This maybe a light version of dark and grittier shows like The Americans and Blacklist.. but that's why it's worth watching.. The setting may not be realistic by far but the drama and thrills are.The plot twists are always out of the ordinary. Far better than what I can say for those popular TV shows which use a heavy R rating to capture audiences. And although it is sad that it has only one Season with 13 episodes. It is a complete and well written story worth watching.

ALLEGIANCE is a TV show I started watching on video on demand. The first two episodes were kinda slow but as the show picked up, I found it intriguing how this young CIA agent Alex O'Connor with an autistic personality deals with life in a family with secrets & being CIA. Granted he starts as an analyst but is brought on for a bigger mission when they find out he has special analytical skills. His mother is a retired Russian spy who converted his father for the sake of their love & later retire. When their daughter becomes of age, the mother converts their daughter when the Kremlin asks. They draw the line when they are asked to convert Alex, knowing he would never agree due to his unique difficulties. The political intrigue, the secrets, and juggling of loyalties captured my attention. The show discusses a second Cold War beginning due to sanctions by the U.S. Considering what is happening in the Ukraine now there are some connected realities in our world today that I felt this show touched ever so lightly. I felt the human element of family vs. Political loyalty interesting. The complexity that began civil wars, indeed begins in families. Brother against brother...mother against child. You consider that recruiting of this nature doesn't always begin with strangers...I liked this show and sad to see it canceled.

The critics killed one of the best mid-season replacements. Having seen all 13 episodes, I believe this show deserves a second chance on cable. The replacement for Allegiance, the slap was laughable!

This program which is now being shown On Demand rather than on the NBC line up is better than most of the shows on broadcast TV. It is better each week and the networks' practice of pulling shows immediately is nonsense. Why should anyone want to watch a new series when they don't know if they will get to see it through a season or not. At least NBC made it available. I look forward to each episode, and I am enjoying watching.

I find this series to be very interesting, it works not only from the physical but the mental. I think Alex is great love him.

This wasn't given enough time. I love the story. The actorsare great.

I thought Allegiance was great!!! I am soooooo sad it was cancelled!!! For me, it was my new favorite TV show. I think all of the actors are very talented and I hope they go on to be on more TV shows. I don't think it was properly advertised. I blame that for the low ratings. The first few episodes got off to a slow start, but then it really hooked me in. Im just sad right now. :-(

I absolutely love it. I enjoy the awkwardness provided by the extreme intellect of Alex. Gavin Stenhouse does a great job!!!!

can't believe this show was cancelled!! It is great and I'm hooked!! This is why I had stopped watching new shows. I get very upset when cancelled and prefer to binge watch on netflix !! Networks you are killing the shows yourself!! Also, they need to have all episodes available first season. They delete the first episodes online and only keep 4-5 last episodes which prevents new viewers from starting show midseason!!
