There are plenty of bits of hits, but missing is the play’s probing examination of quite why Mozart is so new and astonishing. Go to Full Review

This is a funny, sumptuous, intelligent take on the play — far from merely a cover version. Go to Full Review

Forman’s original inevitably casts a long shadow over it, but Barton’s Amadeus is nonetheless sumptuous, highly enjoyable television: a success for delicate times, indeed. Go to Full Review

The narrative relies on meticulous staging, elegant but lacking the glitz and extravagance of Forman's film... [Full review in Spanish] Go to Full Review

Barton and directors Julian Farino and Alice Seabright have created a work that functions as an intelligent complement [to the original film], a reinterpretation that adds layers without erasing the previous ones. [Full review in Spanish] Go to Full Review

It’s bold, well performed, and confident in its vision, even if it sometimes pushes too hard and lacks subtlety. The core rivalry works, the mood is strong, and it’s engaging enough to keep watching. Go to Full Review

Pompous M 4d Engaging and well acted. Will Sharpe and Paul Bettany are superb. The genius of Mozart the extraordinarily gifted composer is well explored. He was truly the pop genius of his era. Ignore the bigoted audience reviews and their pathetic pre occupations with woke nonsense. See more Brian K @Briankeith3 5d The story revolves around Salieri/Mr. Bettany and his life-long pathological jealosy. What a thin perspective on a great composer, even if largely fictional. Further, Bettany's over the top acting ruins the entire show. Othetwise, it might have been better (i.e. so-so, instead of poor). The sets and costumes, and some supporting actors are all very good, as is the music. The actor playing Mozart is good but not great, but he had little to work with in this largely 2-D portrayal. Maddenly, disappointing. See more Edward L @Glyndower Feb 2 An entertaining opening up of the original film/stage-play slightly marred by the now compulsory woke casting. There is no doubt that ethnic minorities have been underrepresented in the past but this is best addressed, as it has been, by widening casting of contemporary drama not by making half of 18th Century Viennese high-society black. See more Gordie Q @Gordiemovietvfan Jan 29 Not sure why the popcorn meter for the non-critics are so low. What is not to like about the series? Even the performances from Mozart is so amazing to watch and listen to. See more J H @Jimbo76 Jan 21 This was a really good bit of TV. Superb performances all around and a faithful adaptation of the classic. It’ll annoy some as brings a modern feel of bawdy and crude element to the story.i suspect this is why the low audience reviews? Though, for me that really brought it to life with Mozart as a ‘crash and burn’ Rock Star, to Salieri’s jealous, seething imperfection. Go with the critics! This one’s great! See more Corinne R @CorinneRoyden Jan 18 Absolute emotional rollercoaster! It is a story but what if this were the truth?!! Thoroughly enjoyed this production, filmed evocatively and with conviction.
