All of Amadeus’s contemporaneous stylistic and dialogue choices are a blast, but the series’ suggestion that this kind of guy is plaguing our present, too, feels the most timeless, and the most unsettling. Go to Full Review
Angie Han The Hollywood Reporter May 8
It does what every worthwhile adaptation does (and what so many other recent re-adaptations have failed to do), which is make the story feel complete unto itself. Go to Full Review

The music, the sets, the costumes—all gorgeous—but pallid imitation fails as sincere flattery in this overstuffed, five-part streaming version of a Tony winning play and Oscar-winning movie. Go to Full Review

Paul Bettany commands Amadeus. the series around him might struggle to justify why this story needed to be told again, but Bettany never struggles to answer why he was the right actor to tell it. Go to Full Review

Without the depth of Mozart's character anchoring the story it becomes an untethered, sprawling mess, with a longer runtime than the film and significantly less to offer. Go to Full Review

Amadeus works as a series, not just because it looks fantastic, but that the main characters are treated as the nuanced people they were, and there seems to be less filler than one might expect. Go to Full Review

Patrice M @RT69007327 Aug 2 What an absolute joke. Mozart wasn’t half asian. He was Austrian. Big difference. What a disgusting thing to do to one of the world’s most celebrated WHITE composers. Sharpe’s willingness to inaccurately portray the race of the composer is the height of arrogant entitlement. What a woke joke See more James D @Poffer Jul 31 This was an excellent mini series. At a loss why the audience score was so insanely low. The critics got it right. Bettany and Sharpe gave award winning performances. The story line was compelling and production excellent. See more ccee M @RT66401762 Jul 28 This is a true masterpiece, Paul Bettany deserves an award for his top notch performance. See more Andrei D @RT74856639 Jun 8 Sharpe and Bettany rock, the story works best during the first three episodes, needs a little more actual music action See more Robert M. @Robert55 Jun 8 Will Sharpe in no way resembles Mozart which is a major distraction from start to finish. But the acting of Paul Bettany is worthy of an Emmy. His deviant, evil depiction of Salieri is breathtaking. It's his finest roll. Perhaps I am biased being a big fan of Tom Hulce's Amadeus but this version gives more information than the movie. The first 3 episodes of this series are difficult to watch but the final 4th and 5th episode are really tremendous. All in all I would say it was a very successful series but they really should have put more effort into finding an Amadeus that we could recognize and relate to.
