A Midwife's Tale

Episode Info

This Laurie-Khan Leavitt screenplay is adapted from Laurel Thatcher Ulrich's Pulitzer Prize-winning non-fiction book based on the diaries of nurse and midwife Martha Ballard who delivered a thousand babies in New England at the turn of the 18th Century. The film intercuts Ulrich interview segments with dramatized enactments of entries from Ballard's diaries, written between 1785 and 1812. Shown at the 1997 Vancouver Film Festival and scheduled for television's American Experience series (PBS).
