News & Interviews for Angie Tribeca: Season 1
Everyone associated with Angie Tribeca appear to have carefully studied and mastered the original source code for this specific type of comedy. Mostly they all look like they're having a good time. You will, too.
Like Airplane! before it, Angie Tribeca honors the hyperactive yet attentive viewing that is rewarding of such specific comedy, its commitment to the smallest, possibly cheesiest gags within thorough production design and performance.
Spoofing police procedurals is one thing. Eviscerating them - as the new TBS comedy Angie Tribeca does with addictive glee - is another.
Not since the halcyon days of Airplane! and The Naked Gun has there been a piece of entertainment this richly, knowingly moronic. Anchored by an inspired deadpan performance from Rashida Jones.
Angie Tribeca, with Jones daring to do just about anything for a laugh, emerges in fine form as a Police Squad! for our times. And that's really saying something.
Angie Tribeca is like an updated version of Police Squad. The humor is similar, full of puns and sight gags... Still, the jokes feel like they could take place in any era.
Angie Tribeca certainly proves it has the comedic chops to generate laughs - the question is how long can the writers keep the creative energy flowing.
After her milquetoast characters in The Office and Parks and Recreation, Angie Tribeca marks not only Jones' strongest role to date, but, given her frequent straight-woman status in those shows, her funniest as well.
It's easy to see where the next laugh will come from, but that doesn't detract from how enjoyable this sitcom is. The running jokes are part of its appeal.
The show can be hilarious, but the jokes are so overdone and obvious that, after a few episodes, it's painful to watch... But that doesn't mean I'm not excited for Angie Tribeca Season 2.
It's actually kind of brilliant. The show seems to build up steam the more you watch it. I came out of the first episode pretty cool on it, but by about episode four, I had done, if not a 180, at least a 140 on it.
Audience Reviews for Angie Tribeca: Season 1
Jun 27, 2019This is the shittiest thing I ever saw on TV. It's just plain stupid, and hurt to watch. I felt really uncomfortable watching it. It felt like I slowly become as stupid as this sitcom. I hate everything about it.
