A group of local animal control workers' lives are complicated by the fact that animals are simple, but humans are not. Leading the crew is Frank, an opinionated, eccentric animal control officer who may not have gone to college but is still the most well-read person in the room. In his past life as a cop, Frank tried to expose corruption in his department, but his efforts got him fired, leaving him cynical and curmudgeonly. Despite his rough exterior, he is blessed with an almost superhuman ability to understand animals.

Critics Consensus

This modern sitcom may not fully satisfy, but with a quirky cast including Joel McHale, Animal Control has enough familiarity to suitably entertain.

Joel McHale takes a walk on the wild side in the “Animal Control” — which doesn’t reinvent the wheel but is entertaining nonetheless. Go to Full Review

While the jokes are indeed silly, there’s an edge... that feels unpleasant, like the show is guilting us for wanting to have fun with it. Go to Full Review

Sitcoms often thrive on the reliability of a well-worn formula, and in that regard, Animal Control knows how to deliver exactly what’s expected of it. Go to Full Review

Animal Control seems to get what makes shows like B99 successful, even if its format isn’t exactly new. Go to Full Review

Nothing on-screen makes you groan, but each episode only earns a few chuckles at best. Go to Full Review

Jim B @RT52973177 Jan 20 Disappointingly lacking in humor, and a waste of acting and cgi talent. Their use of cgi for nearly every animal does not pay off in humor, which brings to question why they thought this was a good idea for a show. If you're gonna clone Brooklyn 99, pick something easier to pull off, not harder. And if you're gonna cheap out on writers, don't include someone like Joel McHale who was already the star of the funniest and most well-written sitcom of all time - this show was a mediocre idea from the conception. I don't hate it, it's not cringe like Blockbuster, but it's just not that funny and none of the characters are are likeable. See more Fred H @RT71645841 01/17/2025 This crap should be rated - 5 stars and get flushed as fast as possible. I cant believe anyone would waste time and money on a show like this. It doesn't look good for humanity when this is what qualifies as entertainment. See more Callum M @RT04185852 01/11/2025 I can't believe they made 3 seasons of this crap. Poor writing, awful acting and zero laughs make it utterly unwatchable. So many great shows get cancelled, how on earth this gets picked up is baffling. See more Read all reviews
