What to Know

Critics Consensus

With a playful tone and an expansive sweep that allows Anne Rice's gothic opus to mull like a chalice of blood, Interview with the Vampire puts a stake through concerns that this story couldn't be successfully resurrected.

The plot unfolds like a campy, over-the-top horror thriller, but the emotional reality of the characters feels more like poetry. Go to Full Review

Brenden K @RT29573175 Aug 10 It completely changes the point of the story. Instead of the struggle of existence in the face of eternity and weighing morality as a vampire it instead focuses on race and sexuality. I’m sure for some that’s exactly the kind of content they want but as a fan of the books it’s more just woke nonsense ruining good IPs. I wanted a show about the already established good book not for everything to be changed to focus or race and sex See more Hudson V @CliffyWeb Aug 10 When it came to this show, the 2nd time was the charm for me. I watched it when it first aired, and 2 things prevented the series from dazzling me the whay it should have: 1) not being prepared for languid (very deliberate and appropriate) pacing; and why not? When you are immortal, you don't get to quicken the pace of your existence; and 2) not having access to the uncut/uncensored version on first viewing (an absolute must). Neil Jordan's film - time contraints notwithstanding always seemed egregiiously miscast (sorry Tom, and Brad, what were you doing in this film?). This series is perfect in every way. Sit back, relax, and suck up its beauty and horror. See more Dedicated F @DedicatedFan Aug 7 This adaptation blew me away. It's made with such love for the books and the changes are handled with so much care. The cast is simply phenomenal. See more Thomas F @motuofm Jul 29 Amazing! Great adaptation. See more Lottie T @RT01457948 Jul 25 A brilliant re-imagining of Interview with the Vampire - I deferred watching it for way too long, because I loved the 1994 movie so much - do NOT make that mistake and let this keep you away from this incredible new adaptation! The series, unlike the film, is adapting various books from the Vampire Chronicles - not just the first book. This first season is mostly the first book, but season two already starts getting material from The Vampire Lestat. They did make major changes to the story, but the main one, the choice to have a second interview in modern times, is a really great idea which makes this new adaptation worth watching. It did take me a little bit of time to detach myself from the film, and from Tom Cruise's performance, which I loved. But I can now say that Sam Reid's interpretation is amazing and much more book accurate - in that it contains more complexity and multiple facets of Lestat, just like the books. The whole cast is stellar, and the writing is amazing! WATCH IT! See more Ryu R @Ryusidevil Jul 24 it's one of the best literary adaptations I've seen. Anne Rice's novel has lived in my head for years, and as someone who has always loved gothic literature, I was nervous about a modern adaptation. Instead, it exceeded every expectation I had. The series understands what makes Anne Rice's work timeless. It preserves the aching melancholy, philosophical depth, moral ambiguity, and intoxicating relationships that made the novel a classic, while expanding the story in ways that feel thoughtful rather than unnecessary. Every change serves the characters instead of replacing them. AND the writing is exceptional. See more Read all reviews
