No matter what, new Evil Dead is new Evil Dead and there's one word to describe that - groovy.

For Evil Dead disciples who've kept the faith all these years, the show is fun enough to make them rethink everything this franchise taught them about dead loved ones who show up on their doorstep, looking better than ever.

Insistent on sticking to the roots of old-school techniques over transitioning the series into something it is not, a.k.a. modern-day CGI and special effects.

If you're a fan of the mixed-genre genre, this is a cracker, and aficionados of Sam Raimi's original films will love revisiting tropes, touchstones and Raimi's distinctive style. This also works perfectly well for newbies, though.

It's exactly as cheesy as it sounds, and do you know what? It's all the more glorious for it.

It's difficult to imagine how Ash vs Evil Dead could be any more fan-pleasing than it is...packed with all sorts of looney fun that conjures back up the "splatstick" style Raimi and friends popularized.

With its over-the-top style, twisted sense of humor, charming cast, and a compelling storyline, it's an unabashedly entertaining show that takes everything we love about the original films and translates it to the small screen.

Although you may have to deal with your own demonic force by calling Comcast to add Starz to your cable package before Halloween, Ash vs. Evil Dead is the best reason to add a premium channel since Game of Thrones.

The formula for Ash vs. Evil Dead is pretty simple: Ash goofs off, a demon shows up, Ash kills the demon in spectacular fashion, Ash says something hilarious. Repeat! And that's all Ash vs. Evil Dead needs.

Ash vs. Evil Dead is the one time where returning to the well has turned out for the better.

There is only one word that can aptly describe Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell's latest collaboration, Ash vs Evil Dead. That word is... Groovy.

Let us now praise Bruce Campbell, the strong-chinned star of The Evil Dead, Evil Dead II, Army of Darkness and now Ash vs Evil Dead, which splendidly, even triumphantly converts the comedy-horror movie franchise into a TV series.

Not really my thing, but Campbell's a lot of fun.

I can say that I found it all fairly amusing, as the material kept veering into cheap horror slapstick.

From the first moment of Ash vs. Evil Dead we're in pure homage and I am ON BOARD.

If you know what you're getting into, it's ghastly comfort food, reassuring in its way.

The bloody roots of Evil Dead are fully honored as well; it's doubtful there has ever been a more red-covered show in TV history. But the overarching goofiness of everything tempers any disgust factor.

Ash vs Evil Dead... is a winningly familiar mixture of over-the-top gore and sarcastic humor, all of it anchored by Bruce Campbell's reliably meta-ironic performance as the titular antihero.
