What to Know

Critics Consensus

Atlanta takes Paper Boi and his entourage out of Georgia, but this inspired third season proves that the more things change, the more they stay weird.

It would take a potent, sinister spell for Atlanta not to return as itself. In this season, even when the series aims for discomfort, a blatant disregard to be defined except on its own terms makes for a knowing calm. Go to Full Review

Good TV shows are consistent, but the great ones know how to change and grow with their characters and with the times. Atlanta has always been one of the greats. Go to Full Review

Many shows try to break rules, but few do so as gracefully as Atlanta. Go to Full Review

In Atlanta, the impoverishment of the white man grants them a new swag or redemption—those “uchronic” chapters are offered as Caucasian dystopias with happy endings—while the achievements of blacks, on the contrary, further widen the void in their inside Go to Full Review

So much of Atlanta embodies the feeling of being confined by self-perception and external projection, trapped by the status quo while consciously trying to reject it. Go to Full Review

Although it isn't set in Atlanta (Amsterdam gets the honors), this season is very Atlanta. Keenly insightful, brutally honest and often painfully accurate. Go to Full Review

Heebie J @hebzzz Jan 14 Honestsly, first watch i didnt really like it but i feel like its growing on me. Hard to get through at times but the characters and the aestheic kept me going See more Benjamin H Apr 23 While season 3 of Atlanta still benefits from the cast's splendid perfomances, its thematic weight and some very interesting explorations, it is also quite uneven and a tad jumbled in some of its presentation which is also a lot due to some of the standalone episodes' more dragged out concepts. See more Mike K @Mike63 Apr 19 This refers to episode 4. The series is good, but this episode is a terrible statement. Deplorable parody of the bewildered white man and the obvious "n*"#*r" behavior, crass, uneducated, overweight, loud, greedy, and with no moral compass. Very funny... not. A terrible insult. See more Joakim Mar 16 A strong season, but the weakest out of the four in my opinion. Mainly due to the show shifting from the grounded reality and relatability of the characters in previous seasons as they now have a lot of money, a lot of high-end connections and a different lifestyle. I like the idea of a touring season, the Atlanta characters 'round the world, but it's another contributing aspect that made the season feel foreign, but also had its positives don't get me wrong. Thanks to the creatives remaining the same they made the season really good despite me not really vibing with the direction. Also, there were some absolutely awesome cameos and guest stars, more please, I love it. Some episodes were great, some were good, none were bad. Thank you!! See more Gareth v @geewah 10/13/2023 Moving out of Atlanta and onto Europe for this season, the entourage's weird, off-beat but always hilarious adventures keep flowing. One of the best comedies of it's time. See more Corey W 02/10/2023 After an astounding two-episode premier Atlanta's return sees it as strong as ever after a four year hiatus. The first episode is the most jaw-dropping entry since last season's Teddy Perkins and will live on as one of the best episodes in the series undoubtedly. In this episode Donald Glover, loosely, tells a story of events that transpired involving one Devonte Hart. Google it if you have the stomach but be warned it's a story of rampant child abuse and, ultimately, murder. It has almost nothing to do with the continuing story of Atlanta, featuring none of the cast we've come to love. It's a bold move for a premier, even bolder considering how long the show has been off-air, but every second is equally captivating and difficult to watch, and it winds up playing a lot like a short film. In the second episode we pick up where we left off at the end of season 2. The crew is in Europe and Paper Boi is wildly successful, but also in jail. The contrasts between the jail we see in the first season and this Dutch jail are astounding and it's clear that Atlanta never once lost its voice or vision of social commentary within a surreal dramedy. Employing the horror/comedy genre to help explain the black experience and allowing itself to be weird while it evolved might be the closest that Atlanta comes to being truly defined over the years. Between the writing, direction, and acting there really aren't ever any notes to give. Every aspect of this project, on-screen and off, is truly inspired. It's hard to recommend a show more than this one. Donald Glover continues to show that he isn't just an actor, rapper, or writer, but rather an artist in the most universal definition of that word.
