Back to Life is back on its near-perfect original form. Go to Full Review

Haggard manages to yoke this all together with a plot that hinges on a Tamagotchi called Jerry. It's a high-wire act, yet it's delivered with so much confidence and brio that you hardly notice. Go to Full Review

"Back to Life" manages to make room for more laughs than that, and its ability to let all of this live side by side helps make it unlike pretty much anything else on TV. Go to Full Review

While the humor of Back to Life's second season is still razor-sharp, the sinister elements and the characters' excruciating pain override the laughs. Go to Full Review

Gareth v @geewah 06/23/2023 For this dark comedy to remain as sincere and have such heart and soul considering it's subject matter is a credit to it's writers, Haggard and Solon. An improvement on season one, and that's some achievement. See more Nicole A @RT60257315 04/08/2023 Funny, thought proving and strangely uplifting. There has been a lot of love put into making this series from the story, script, acting and down to the wonderful original score. The series deals with serious and dark themes but through the lens of a caricatured village - such that these things can be explored through humour and not hit too hard. But when the moments do hit they fully land. Themes of community, in/out crowds, living up to expectations, being true to oneself, love of/duty to others, the weight of secrets, the need to belong, the power of being heard/seen properly, and friendship. (and ice cream) Time flew by watching this. And it's only on reflection after that some of the themes and metaphors come out. I think that's quite smart. Acting is great and the humour is done very well. I would say some of the caricatures were a bit too much for me which meant that I didn't always fully engage - like the chip shop man (who's complexity I initially liked but then he was sidelined fairly quickly and dully) or the ex chief police officer (too much blaming others and not enough introspection - or atleast some exploration of why he was so angry at the young girls despite knowing his role in it). My favourite moments (and I suspect the writer's too) were the quiet but full moments. When family members bolster each other ("hold your nerve") or when friends come through and share ice creams. These had beautiful sound tracks and atmospheric scenes. Backdrops of coastal landscapes and moody skies. The beauty in the everyday. See more Mike M @mmx554 03/09/2023 Series 2 certainly lives up to expectations. It is at least as good as series 1. I liked everything about the two series. A rare triumph of originality! U See more Massoud H @Massoud 12/30/2022 I came to this out of nowhere and was so pleasantly surprised, and the second season was incredibly fulfilling. See more Greg S @RT66181183 10/12/2022 Great actors. Writers did a fabulous job. Pace is perfect, and this series is intriguing. See more Per S @RT83737705 01/19/2022 Back to Life has got the label 'dark comedy', but even though there are comic scenes and dialogues, and characters are exaggerated to point out the parody, many of them are just as much or more akward or tragic, so perhaps 'tragicomedy' is more describing. This series could simply be called a crime drama, and a very good one, only disguised as a comedy, but first season is better than the second, as there's a better balance between tragedy and comedy in the first six episodes. The idea of how life must feel for a person who experiences it just after being released from a long prison sentence is brilliant, but as the focus on this basic conflict is fading throughout the second season, and the personal struggles or parodic aspects with and between the characters start to go on repeat, the total loses edge and some of its quality, much because of too many silly parody situations with some characters, which really have little to do with the actual story. Still, it's a brilliant plot, basically very well executed, with solid acting performances, and particularly from Daisy Haggard in the leading role. See more Read all reviews
