Critics Consensus

Beacon 23 is full of clever world-building flourishes while light on character depth, making for an uneven saga full of invention but lacking in inspiration.

Craig Mathieson The Age (Australia) 03/28/2024
When the focus is intimate, the show has a menacing purpose, but it becomes steadily more engorged with plotting that’s busy but never quite vital. Go to Full Review

Alas, despite having all the right ingredients, Beacon 23 did not end up appetizing. Go to Full Review
Angie Han The Hollywood Reporter 11/13/2023
Those with enough curiosity and patience to wait out its rough patches — and those with a taste for cerebral sci-fi — may find themselves falling under its plaintive spell. Go to Full Review

The televisual adaptation of Silo author Hugh Howey’s short story collection is a strange and mesmerizing product. Nevertheless... the series’ tendency toward the cerebral might actually be its most promising element. Go to Full Review

While the show is slower in its storytelling, each episode layers on the complications, culminating in an urgent and tense finale, that’s only hampered by its lack of answers. Go to Full Review

There’s something about Beacon 23’s excitement for its own setting and ideas that makes it worthwhile entertainment, even if the setting isn’t used to its potential and the ideas often aren’t worth having. Go to Full Review

Patrick J Nov 15 super bad. boring plot. badly cast too. no one can act. young lena actor had a bad accent See more K F Jul 6 Incredibly boring. Badly cast. See more Ripper J @RJ2099 Jun 12 Meh. This show had potential, but there was not enough story and way too much weird camera work. There definitely wasn’t enough story for the slow pacing. Like a lot of modern shows/movies, they didn’t have much story and they tried to stretch it out with fluff and exceedingly slow pacing. Almost every episode felt like 20 minutes stretched into 45. And whatever they were going for with the weird camera work failed miserable. It was just annoying and stupid. But I will give the show credit for not being a sequel, a prequel or a remake, not being about superheroes from comics and adequate acting. See more Alvin P Feb 9 I find it baffling that many seem to find the chemistry between Headey and James to be good. To me, they are clearly not attracted to each other and the acting of the supposed romance is quite forced. Nevertheless, it is still watchable, especially episodes that do not feature the both of them. See more Jonathan K 08/26/2024 A bit slower than other syfy's but if you see it through quite entertaining. With the absence of shows like the expanse or even nightflyers from the new content list, it's nice to have a deeper syfy series that is still evolving. It does have some issues, it could be more ponient & have some of the more interesting charater developments & a few more 'wow thats cool' moments. See more Tom C 08/03/2024 World and story-building are incredible, and both Halan and Aster are excellent characters to take audiences through the story. Loved it! See more Read all reviews
