What to Know

Critics Consensus

Ali Wong and Steven Yeun are a diabolically watchable pair of adversaries in Beef, a prime cut comedy that finds the pathos in pettiness.

No show captured 2023’s undercurrent of unfocused discontent with the intensity, empathy and underlying humor of Lee Sung Jin’s eight-episode Beef. Go to Full Review
Judy Berman TIME Magazine May 8, 2023
At first, this simple yet amusing premise seems better suited to a 90-minute feature than a 10-episode Netflix series. But it soon becomes apparent that Lee is doing more than just a live-action Looney Tunes bit. Go to Full Review

This is a nerve-jangling, synapse-zinging ride into madness, and it’s great. Go to Full Review

This is how you write a show. This is why you make a show! Healing people. Healing yourself. Showing people the love that they’re missing is not so far away. Hold on, and keep living. Go to Full Review

3/5
A different story that escalates in violence and depth with a good treatment of interesting themes. It can be a bit repetitive in its development, but is short and dynamic, that makes it entertaining and captivating to watch. [Full Review in Spanish] Go to Full Review

Michael B @BlackCloud13 5 days ago Incredibly boring and grotesquely long. The whole story could have been told in 90 minutes. To call this a comedy is a joke. Not one laugh in the whole first season. Impossible to continue watching this. I'm sad that Mulligan was wasted in this. I want my time back. See more Jay S @RT78130978 Sep 1, 2026 From the season premiere to the finale, I felt really engaged into the storyline and how relatable we could all feel to an issue that arises all too often. Watching the trickle down effect slowly take place is gripping and believable, yet you still are left in awe at what you just watched, exclaiming, no freaking way! I'm ready to jump into season 2, though I wish they wouldn't have decided to use a whole new cast for the season. See more Patrick R @Patrick2348 Aug 30, 2026 Interesting concept but it's very hard to engage when not a single character has a redeeming quality. Yawn. Carey Mulligan is the only convincing actor. See more Chelsea C @chelsczosek Aug 24, 2026 Gets you hooked from start. Good acting, good story line. Didn’t watch second season yet but I wish it were still the original characters See more Peter C @peterc22 Aug 24, 2026 Perfect execution. Funny and action packed. See more Tony T @tonyknowsbest Aug 23, 2026 Absolute masterpiece. Acting was superb, lots of twists and turns, and somehow everyone is a villain in this show for the most part.
