What to Know

Critics Consensus

Ali Wong and Steven Yeun are a diabolically watchable pair of adversaries in Beef, a prime cut comedy that finds the pathos in pettiness.

No show captured 2023’s undercurrent of unfocused discontent with the intensity, empathy and underlying humor of Lee Sung Jin’s eight-episode Beef. Go to Full Review

At first, this simple yet amusing premise seems better suited to a 90-minute feature than a 10-episode Netflix series. But it soon becomes apparent that Lee is doing more than just a live-action Looney Tunes bit. Go to Full Review

This is a nerve-jangling, synapse-zinging ride into madness, and it’s great. Go to Full Review

This is how you write a show. This is why you make a show! Healing people. Healing yourself. Showing people the love that they’re missing is not so far away. Hold on, and keep living. Go to Full Review

A different story that escalates in violence and depth with a good treatment of interesting themes. It can be a bit repetitive in its development, but is short and dynamic, that makes it entertaining and captivating to watch. [Full Review in Spanish] Go to Full Review

Craig B @Boundsy 1d I saw all these great reviews and thought surely this would be a very good show. Alas, even considering strong performances from Steven Cheung and Ali Wong, I just couldn't get into this. Each to their own... I'm sure many will enjoy this show... See more Marco L @decatur555 2d Beef turns a stupid road-rage incident into an escalating personal war between two deeply unhappy people. Steven Yeun and Ali Wong are outstanding as Danny and Amy, characters who are funny, damaged, selfish, desperate and impossible to judge in simple terms. Their feud keeps growing, pulling families, relationships and businesses into increasingly wild situations, yet the series rarely loses sight of what is underneath the anger: failure, loneliness, family pressure and the feeling of living the wrong life. It moves brilliantly between black comedy, drama, violence and genuine unease, helped by excellent editing, music and a strong visual identity. Some twists are exaggerated, but the performances and emotional depth make them work. A brilliant first season that begins with something ridiculous and ends up talking about almost everything. See more Danny A @RT73680666 Jul 13 The show is a masterpiece. Has it all. Comedy , drama, and thrill. Along with good acting and excellent script. I couldn’t look away. Had my complete attention throughout its entirety. Can’t wait to watch it again ! See more Squid M @RT23644611 Jun 29 Recommended, a bit goofball filled in spots but great main characters keep you hooked. See more Alex J @RT51904888 Jun 26 Brilliant writing and stellar acting from the two leads. An interesting “two sides of the same coin” examination of dirtbags trying to get the last laugh, with plenty leftover for us. See more Irene T @totoirene Jun 8 Although the pacing is a little slow, it is a truly remarkable film. The performances by both actors were outstanding. See more Read all reviews
