The character is very watchable, and Damien Molony is able to persuasively carry Bergerac’s darkness and dynamism. Go to Full Review

There is no shortage of grim crime series being produced in Britain, and on its own terms this Bergerac is a good example of the genre done right. Go to Full Review

This six-part remake is a very different production from the one that enthralled audiences in the Eighties. Go to Full Review
James Croot The Post NZ 04/08/2025
It lacks the urgency of, say, The Responder or Line of Duty, meaning it ends up feeling simply like a slightly grittier version of Midsomer Murders or Death in Paradise. Not necessarily a bad thing, but not enough to make it compelling, essential viewing. Go to Full Review

While there are familiar threads that pay homage to the classic show... there is one simple tweak to the way in which the case goes on to unfold that makes an impactful difference to this new iteration of the Bergerac series. Go to Full Review

Edward L @Glyndower Apr 17 An entertaining reboot although not as good as the original. The show articulates too many modern detective cliches: emotionally damaged lead character; problems with his child; corrupt and incompetent jealous subordinate; slimy, lying, criminal journalist; woke casting (Jersey is one of the whitest parts of the UK, due to its immigration policies, with less than 3% of the population black or asian yet about a quarter of the investigating team are 'persons of colour'). The storyline is over-extended through six episodes. Perhaps it would have been better to take the 'Morse' line and had three two-part stories. The casting is generally strong although Pippa Heywood tries, and fails yet again, to break away from her comic personas while Zoe Wannamaker is her usual unpleasant self. Stick to what you are good at Pippa. Worth a watch though. See more Phuct O @CMLTOE Feb 27 I loved it. I hope there is a season 2. See more Alain E @AlainE Dec 28 Extremely dated in describing situations and the main hero. Kind of a low rent James Bond and I am not a fan of his either. See more Karen R @RT70334494 04/28/2025 Tried it this evening and sorry the main character has the charisma of a goldfinch and high doses of being annoying and self centred. John Nettles had the ability to make you like him ... which this new character doesn't. Without John Nettles Midsomer Murders would have fold as this series will very quickly under its new straight jacket of cliches and bad acting. See more Paul T @RT19736458 03/17/2025 What a shame, it's all got to serious, none of the understated humour of the original series, which I've started watching again, far better See more Geoffrey P @RT03572476 03/12/2025 Probably the most complete collection of cliches possible. Every element we have seen many times. Main character totally unlikeable. See more Read all reviews
