"Better Things" is one of TV's best sitcoms. It is heart and laughs, but simple drama at its core. In the hands of Pamela Adlon this season is poised to be even more personal and strong, letting us spend time with Sam and all her trials.

Pamela Adlon is a creative force unto herself...Better Things Season 3 may be the best yet.

As bold, tender and shameless as ever.

All Better Things had to do to prove its durability was continue being itself.

Adlon outgrew her old creative partner, though obviously, the latter is a much happier development.

I had experienced catharsis. It's odd and actually quite difficult to articulate how a TV show could be that relieving, or that emboldening.

She's making choices bold enough to alienate some viewers-ones that introduce a voice strong enough to stand on its own.
February 27, 2019
Unfolds in dreamy, fragmented interludes, which layer together to form a singular, candid illustration of Adlon's life -- a rich tapestry of s----y experiences that's somehow beautified by the way she pulls it all together.

Better Things has lost none of its charm, wit, or style in shedding its cocreator.
February 28, 2019
Life is messy and Better Things keeps it real, meaning love and sex are an often too complicated delight to deal with amidst the chaos.
February 26, 2019
In the end, there's no one takeaway; there are dozens, and they're delivered with the kind of beautiful storytelling that appears effortless, but actually requires acknowledgement on levels both granular and grand.

The show, a semi-autobiographical depiction of Adlon's life, is still silly, touching, absurdist, invigorating. The '60s and '70s pop/rock throwbacks can still pack a gut punch at the right moment.

Adlon, who directed every episode of the series this season, is at the top of her game, both as a behind-the-scenes creator and an on-camera talent.

More than anything, Better Things captures the inevitable, irrational feeling most women have that it is always our responsibility - whether at work, at home, or out in the world - to solve the problem at hand.

The hallmarks of this excellent series remain: great musical cues, Adlon's warmth, emotional rawness, stylish scenes, and cozy family gatherings.

This is a wonderful show, and TV is lucky for how thoroughly Adlon has overcome the awful circumstances she had to deal with to make the show even better.

[Better Things] blossoms on its own.
February 28, 2019
The Season 3 premiere of "Better Things" is about nothing, and it's about everything.
February 26, 2019
Each episode feels like a compelling short story, or a collection of theme-linked tales, toggling between topics both deep and juvenile.

"Better Things" is funny, but organically, and at times unintentionally so.
