Critics Consensus

Though definitely not for all tastes, Brand New Cherry Flavor is a delightfully deranged trip anchored by another incredible performance from Rosa Salazar.

An utterly bonkers noirish thriller that is one of the best shows on Netflix right now. Go to Full Review

This surprising and deeply grotesque horror story is set in the '90s, and it's very much one for our times. Go to Full Review

Even the style-over-substance horror crowd seems bound to be disappointed by Cherry Flavor. Go to Full Review

The show takes the audience in for the ride, with its use of gore, horror and zombies; nevertheless, the uncanny and messy storyline makes it unworthy to watch it for a second view. Go to Full Review

So many elements of Brand New Cherry Flavor feel borrowed, and so much of what it has to say feel shouted. Go to Full Review

What was I supposed to do, not watch a show that featured Catherine Keener as a cat witch? Yes. I was supposed to not watch this. Go to Full Review

Torben E @Torben May 31 Wish I could give this 4 stars or more but unfortunately this series does not deliver on its promise; at least not completely. What's great: the actors. All of them. Especially Rosa Salazar, Catherine Keener and Eric Lange. These three are simply amazing. Rosa Salazar has this perfect combination of appearing tough and vulnerable at the same time, Catherine Keener plays her role marvelously mysterious and devious and Eric Lange shows so many facets in his acting...it's such a pleasure to watch these three act and interact with each other. The look of the show is also amazing, it oftentimes feels like something David Lynch would have thought of. And while the story itself is fairly simple, it's exciting and has enough twists and turns to keep you guessing. So, what's bad? Well, in my opinion six episodes would have been enough to tell the whole story. It all felt a bit long-drawn-out, without a good reason. And some things are just too absurd and there's no good explanation for them. See more Luke T @LightSyson May 6 If the fun, energy and creativity of the first 3 episodes had been maintained throughout, then this would have been a great show. Mostly great performances. I see Rosa Salazaar getting loads of praise but honestly she showed no depth. Struggles to show emotion when loved ones die. Wasn't bad, just a little unconvincing sometimes. Eric Lange and Catherine Keener steal the show. It felt restricted at points aswel. The bits involving Hollywood producers etc could have opened up such an interesting thread but it goes nowhere. Ending seemed like the writers had no clue what to do. And the Horror aspects were rushed and without tension. But it was funny and goofy . Creators have potential definitely. See more Esra Y @RT95409318 Jan 11 Show spellbind me from the beginning with reminiscent of David Lynch movies but Cherry Flavor is not a copy. The supernatural lore is fully fleshed, unique to itself. Rosa Salazar delivers a gobsmacking performance. See more Austin R @austinrian Dec 18 While not to everyone's tastes, fans of Lynch and Cronenberg will have their appetites satiated. See more Gregory N @GregoryMN Nov 29 Insane. Nuts. I'd say "off the wall" but there were no walls. I loved it! See more Vik A @RT55997952 Oct 31 If you like wild and weird horror, this series is amazing. Lots of themes to think about. Catherine Keener is fantastic as usual. Eric Lange is just as good in this role as he was in narcos. Rosa Salazar seemed a bit off at first, but you grow to enjoy the matter of factness she brings going along with the craziness. See more Read all reviews
