It is usually very well done although it has some shabby special effects. [Full Review in Spanish]

It's rare these days when a historically-inspired series properly manages to merge a modern sensibility into a period piece. Britannia manages to navigate the waters with a great cast.

A somewhat preposterous beginning that's difficult to take seriously, bordering as it does on bonkers self-parody.

Weirder and wilder than Thrones or pretty much anything else on television. The suits, if they really expect a Westeros-sized return on their investment, might be disappointed. Or perhaps they're cooler than we know.

Britannia may occasionally wow with its visuals and provide enjoyment in David Morrissey's performance, but the attempts to emulate better shows gives everything a soulless, corporate quality.

The acting, directing, scripting are all fine, sometimes they are very good, but the show has yet to really take off, although the potential is there.

What's fun so far is the way a nonchalant 21st-century sensibility is teleported back to 43 AD.

If you think Game Of Thrones is a bit stuffy and too grounded in reality, this is definitely your series.

The spectacle itself is impressive, but the lack of substance underneath keeps Britannia from really landing.

So what if it's a little more modest in scope than its transatlantic fantasy cousin? Britannia also takes itself a bit less seriously and has an earthy charm all its own.

The Britannia cast plays it terribly straight for the most part, and fortunately that doesn't get in the way of its bizarre swagger.

The production values are fairly good -- there are some gorgeous landscapes -- and Butterworth drops in a number of juicy scenes with fun dialogue to spice things up along the way

Thankfully, Britannia isn't spinning its wheels. It's got a lot to go through, and the show has powerful female characters who can't be bothered with the ways of their rulers, and must come together to stop a foreign invasion.

Britannia is aimed squarely at the Game of Thrones crowd, but it has an engaging eccentricity of its own.

Britannia offers an intensely dramatic portrait of Roman conquest and Celtic resistance.

The final two episodes really give us an idea of the missed opportunity here to make a potentially legendary show that would live long in the memory.

Wild and sharp and terrific. And did I mention loopy?

It's all a lot of campy, weird fun.

The casual watcher will find enough to sustain them here (cool female archer! Weird, skeletal, permanently high druids!), but, in episode 1 at least, Britannia struggles to prove itself to the American company it keeps on Sky Atlantic.

While Britannia is clearly inspired by Game of Thrones-and probably wouldn't exist without that show's success-Britannia still feels very much like its own beast. A beast filled with treachery, terrifying druids, and a whole mess of hallucinogens.
