Broadchurch still succeeds in using its mystery as way of delving into deeper emotions.

For fans of the show's procedural elements, this is a good ending, and as "satisfying" a culprit reveal as could be. Still, in its final bow, Broadchurch jettisoned a lot of what made it so special, and that can only be seen as a missed opportunity.

... was wonderfully good, then appallingly bad, and now looks as if it might, tentatively, be good again.

Chibnall has also sustained an admirable level of tension through these final eight episodes of "Broadchurch" and closes the series satisfactorily.

Tennant and Colman are the marquee players, though. Their consuming dedications to duty drive Broadchurch through its thickets of who was where and when and why. Theirs is one of TV's best-ever detective duos.

Broadchurch, one of the best British imports in recent memory, ends its three-season run ... in both bittersweet and (slightly) disappointing fashion.

Broadchurch ticks all the Brit drama boxes and still manages to stand out from the mysteries some of us can't get enough of.

Broadchurch ... is distinctive for various reasons.

The series paints a fairly grim view of humanity, but Colman and Tennant save the series from being completely and utterly depressing.

A fine return to form, after the notorious mess made of the second series.

Broadchurch accomplishes the whodunit in a wholly engaging, yet socially aware manner, anchored by its devotion-inspiring leads.

While this finale can't really measure up to the show's breathtaking debut season, it is a well-made farewell to my favorite crime fighting duo on TV right now.

[It] does what the final season of any great show should do: It wraps some things up, but with enough slightly open doors to dangle the hope that Chibnall and his superior cast could return to "Broadchurch" sometime in the future.

It's brilliant by both Colman and Tennant again, a portrait of a close working relationship that is at times tetchy, at others bordering on close friendship, but always convincing and so very human.
