The first season was listless and only found its true emotional core by the end of its second. Season 3 splits the difference, taking a long path to reach the intersection of goofy and grounded.

It's amazing that Brockmire can go to such a sad, lovely, introspective place amid all the crude (if creative) jokes about sex, booze and inside-actual-baseball references.

Brockmire is dealing with sobriety now, and while I thought the genius of the show was seeing a character enthusiastically embrace his alcoholism, it's actually managed to find a new speed in its third season.

Through it all, each episode of Brockmire season 3 manages to consistently outdo the previous installment, resulting in a season of television that's fit for a weekly or all-at-once binge watch.

By adding the additional cast members, all with their own way of delivering the one-two comedy punch, it allows Brockmire to grow and even improve his personality without losing the bite we expect from watching Brockmire.

Brockmire has always been an expertly scripted series and this season Joel-Church Cooper's scripts continue to deliver some of the most brilliant, jam-packed dialogue you'll come across on television.
