Critics Consensus

Burn Notice declines to rock the boat in a fourth season that revels in its narrative slickness and the easygoing repartee among its ensemble.

There's nothing wrong with a show that just wants to comfortably bask in the Miami sun -- so long as it rolls over and shows some fresh skin every once in a while.

It's a good thing Reynolds was around to spark the action, because the rest of this Burn Notice showed signs of strain.

It took until at least the third commercial break before I realized why I was enjoying tonight's Burn Notice season finale so much more than the last few episodes.

I continue to like the relationship between Michael, Fiona and Sam, and by this season, things have gelled far beyond their tenuous structure in the earlier seasons.

The fourth season of Burn Notice may have had its share of large overriding mysteries and twists, but it didn't abandon the smaller stories that always offered more insight into these characters and their motivations.

I like the cases of the week just fine -- and in periods when the mythology is floundering, they're the reason to watch.

No program does this kind of thing better... The cast of the show has gotten better every year and they're more than up for the challenge of dramatic plots that don't tidy themselves up in 44 minutes.

The problem was, for me, the creators wanted to come back with a gigantic bang, so they shoved in a bunch of explosions, three or four storylines, a cameo by Michael Ironside, and some CGI aircraft.

With writing like this I can see why USA Network has already renewed it for two more seasons.

I'm interested to see how dark this show will get this season.

Last night's episodes were a strong reminder of how good the show can be, and I hope Nix and company can keep that momentum going forward.

The fourth season premiere of Burn Notice is a wonderful start to a highly anticipated season that not only gives fans what they want, but also introduces new elements that help make the series feel fresh and new.
