If you think of Catch Me A Killer as less a biographical series and more as a police procedural, you’ll like it a whole lot better. Go to Full Review

Niki M Oct 9 What a wasted opportunity! The source material could have made an absorbing and compelling police procedural, but instead it is spent on banal conversation, unnecessary 'character development' and empty cinematography. The script has a few cringe-y comments but is otherwise workmanlike; the acting has a few hammy moments but is not otherwise bad; but the real culprit is the structure. Each case consists of a short lecture from our psychologist about some really obvious features, someone phones in with a tip, the guy gets caught, and then the 'okes' talk about how amazing all this psychology stuff is, while our psychologist chainsmokes, eats junk food and has nightmares. There is no tension, no build-up, no suspense, no 'gotcha' moment, no real drama at all. The producers could argue that real life is not a script, but they don't stick to the true story anyway. If they were going to take artistic licence, they could have put in a few crash-bangs-and-wallops. A pity that such a cracking story got treated like homework. So this is not an overall disaster, but it could have been so much better. See more Janice C 10/02/2024 The chain smoking was distracting and ruined it for me. I know that sounds silly but it’s how i feel. See more Mfuneko T 04/02/2024 A missed opportunity! Good premise but a lazy script and a two-dimensional support cast that does the crisp cinematography and fascinating material a disservice. No one expect the the main character Micki seems to have a clue or interest in detective work. The serial killers are barely plausible and the element of fear doesn’t go beyond the real life facts of their crimes. Landscape shots of Joburg and Cape Town are majestic and sometimes drip with foreboding and beauty but lack of depth and detail everywhere else in show leaves you wondering.
